Sky and virgin chathe way to much for their services when you can get them free from other sources.
In my opinion openbox and a firestick is the best option as these cover everything and are both free all you need is a decent wifi conect ion |

After reviewing how much I paid Sky I decided to look into alternatives.
I was always a bit sceptical about friends telling me about M8 boxes, Firesticks, Kodi etc.
however I settled in the M9 box with Kodi/PlayAllStreams/Exodus/Phoenix, and even managed to find a way to route it through my Apple TV box, so it's all controlled with one remote.
I've saved a fortune on not have Sky and much of the content is in HD (considering the limited HD channels on Sky).
I find I binge watch tv series and some films are available before Sky/Virgin so it's beating them hands down.
Sure the interface is not as polished as a Sky Planner or as fast, but you get what get pay for. Or in this case get what you've saved for.
As a bonus I'm not buying BluRays either as there's so much content from the latest shows & films to vintage tv.
The money saved is better going towards a nice long holiday and my early retirement. |

Kodi is so much better for brand new films that are just out but I would say sky is better for tv series and live tv. Depends what you would want more really |

Definitely go for an Android box, I've got one in the Livingroom and each bedroom, £25 a pop and once you've added the repositories (some are pre-loaded but there's step by step YouTube instruction videos if not) you'll get a full line up of movies, box sets, movie channels, sports channels etc, had them 2 years now and no problems

Hi, I bought an android box from eBay but also downloaded Kodi onto my pc and phone which is free.
A wee bit of faffing about to get your programme but well worth it.
YouTube is your friend, helps setting it up. Jim |

If configured properly then Kodi can be a good replacement for SKY. I do a lot of work with Kodi and have made custom builds that run from a USB pen and can be transferred to any computer.
Like others have said it's the repo's that make Kodi and they provide the channels that you really want. The Firesticks are okay but for me they are limited, outdated and packed full of junk.
People tend to get carried away when talking about Kodi and often make it out to be an easy alternative, the truth is Kodi often needs a lot of attention to keep it working properly and a lot of maintenance t keep it running smooth to avoid the infamous buffering problem.
On a modern laptop or even desktop Kodi will out gun any of the MX boxes or Firesticks by a huge margin and makes the experience much better, simply connect your lappy to your telly and you now have a powerful Media Center that can do a lot more than stream movies, I haven't watched mainstream telly for over 2 yrs since I learned to configure Kodi properly.
It takes a lot of work to learn it, however if you really want to go for it then give me a shout, I will look into uploading my latest build to Dropbox or something and that way anyone who wants it can have it. I will include instructions but it will be configured for maximum entertainment. |

2 of mine run on Wi-Fi (50mps) and other than the occasional buffer, depending on what time it is and the quality of the stream, everything runs smoothly. Try something streams with SD after the title, that may help, or pick up a Wi-Fi extender/booster plug (handy to have if you've got a few devices connected to your Wi-Fi network) |

We changed about six months ago from Sky to kodi and although there has been challenging moments when we couldn't find a stream we wanted, we have had much more choice in what we wanted to watch and saved a fortune.
We have tried to hardwire the cable from the router to a telly on a different floor, to get a better connection as the Wi-Fi doesn't go that far but we have done something wrong and we can't get that box to work. If anybody has got any idea what we might have done wrong I would love some advice. It might be where the cabling actually comes into the wall, into a junction box, and then goes out again to the telly? |

If so you would need a splitter box the router doesnt carry any tv pictures so a splitter box out of your kodi box.one outlet to livingroom tv the other to the bedroom tv when I mentioned hardwiring I was meaning ethernet cable instead of wifi |

Invest in a Wi-Fi extender/booster, £20-£40. That would fix the Wi-Fi reach problem |

Can't beat kodi and there's so many easy guides on the web and YouTube to setup it with the various addons.
I use Phoenix for most of the latest releases and salts for the older things to watch |

No we are attempting to run two completely separate boxes off two separate TVs. Whichever box we have in the lounge works perfectly as it is close to the Wi-Fi. The box downstairs even with the WiFi extender doesn't seem to work so we tried to hard wire it from the router, going downstairs into a junction box with an ethernet cable and then back out of tge junction box, with another ethernet cable to the android box but we just haven't got it right in some way, as it won't work. |

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure you can't split cat V through a junction box, the cable is generally screened and the cores twisted to keep the data clean.
I just bought a tp link AV500 the uses your electrical wiring to give you a data connection else where and it also has a new wifi hotspot on the output box, pretty cheap on Amazon and it's just plug and play and worth every penny |

Also not sure of yoursetup but bypass the junction box and plug ethernet straight from android box to router I run multiple pcs xbox and other gadgets where possible always hardwired as there is little pckt loss wifi will always have pckt loss its the price you pay for wireless.could also be a break in cable systematically check each component.not sure what your junction box is or what its for but the android box itself wont need it hope you get it fixed |

If your looking for something that works the same as sky and same channel listing and a 7 day epg the vu boxes are the way to go for if you load the sly skin it looks and plays the same as sly at a cost of £20 for the years subscription, no add ons or plugings, simply put your sly cable in the back of the box and bang all the channels are unlocked via card sharing |
