its doing my tits in. I usually get the train to work and I've been having to drive in instead or hot-desk from a closer office to home. Its shocking.
I'll tell you a belter of a story though. I was getting the train back home from Edinburgh and the trains were cancelled (sudden last minute strike) so they arranged a taxi to take me back home. Scotrail paid for it, the total came to ...... £74.
WTF Lol |

"Who else is being fucked about with this shite?? "
It's not a lot of shite tho is it. The guards are striking to save their jobs. I don't suppose you'd appreciate it if your company wanted to demote you and pay you just over 50%of current salary with worse terms and conditions. |

They're striking because new trains can be operated by just the driver...it used to be the driver was only there to drive the train and the guard was in charge of it...now the driver takes all the responsibility it also takes a man away from the train if there is an emergency situation the guard was always responsible for the safety side of things.... |

It's not all about saving jobs it's also safety related due to there being only one staff member on the train ...I've seen 2 fatal accidents when I was in the railway and both times the drivers were killed .at the time the guards did all they could to safe guard the passengers safety ...heaven forbid it ever happens again......so they are striking for safety reasons not just safe guarding jobs...hope this throws some light on it for you |

It is more to do with safety yes, the only thing is they did away with guards on the electric trains years ago and never really put a fight up then.. I'm all for fighting what you're entitled to but this is a dispute I'm afraid they're not going to win.. Could I also add it's absolutely nothing to fm with pay amd conditions as my learned friend suggested in an earlier post. |

So how is that "shite"?"
I'm meaning for the passengers it's shite, they are being punished for something that will come to nothing I'm afraid |

"So what I said was correct then. "
No.
The issue is that the doors will be operated by the driver instead of the guard, Scotrail have already offered guarantees that nobody will lose their jobs, be demoted or have their income reduced.
The unions have made claims that this will cause accidents, however they havent offered any information as to how they reached that conclusion.
Aprox 60% of train journeys in Scotland take place on trains with driver operated doors, so if it really is a safety issue my question is, where are all the accidents on those trains ?
I actually put that to an RMT shop steward, the answer was, and I am quoting directly
"Thats besides the point"
I dont understand what the unions hope to achieve through these strikes. |

They'll still be two staff members on board, the guard will probably be the same person, just they'll be called a ticket examiner, instead of a guard |

According to online articles, guards have not been responsible for safety on a train since 1996.
Apparently they only get involved in safety if the driver is dead.
When did this last happen? Not only a driver dying but the guard getting help?
Don't think the rmt are being 100% truthful. Also if trains are not safe with only a driver, Why are the train drivers union letting their members drive unsafe trains? |
