Are you doing the job you always dreamed of? Or are you doing any old job to get by? If you don't enjoy your job, what would you rather do?
Personally, I never thought I'd be doing the job I do. It was not my plan at all but, now that I'm doing it I really like it & I don't see myself changing job anytime soon.

I enjoy my job for now .... I studied marketing at uni and found it almost impossible to secure a decent paying job in that industry. I'm now working in something totally different, something I didn't even know existed & I really enjoy it, the pay is decent & progression is rapid. The sector I work in is project management
When I was a wee nipper I was determined to be a police man. I was soooo close to sitting my police exams & fitness test but then out of the blue I got a uni placement.
Im a beliver that some things happen for a reason.
For now, the closest thing I get to wearing a police uniform was when my ex gf used to make me wear it for sexy time hehe |

I am in the job I wanted to be in but after 25 years in it would love a change. But as always our pension scheme hangs over me like the famed sword I can retire in early fiftys if I stay on in five years with large pay off so am stuck |

Whilst I enjoy some aspects of my job it doesn't really push me to use my knowledge or experience. It does however pay the bills.
But if I could find something that actually used my abilities and stimulated my mind more I'd be happier |

Can honestly say I love my job. Can't imagine me ever doing anything else. It's no quite what I had aspired to and my path took me in many different directions over the years before finally delivering me to this destination. It's as close as I'll ever get to what I wanted to do without actually doing that job!!! |

I wanted to be a jcb driver but then I grew up and realised they make washers
Wouldn't change what I do now. I've tried a good few times but always come back to it |

A world of my own |
Up until last week I had 2 jobs. One I liked one just paid the bills. I used to have a career and I've spent the last 7 years trying to figure out how to get one back again.
Now I'm looking for a job and while I need something quite soon I am pushing myself to not just take anything when I know I'm capable of so much more.

Fell into my job more by accident than design.
Had wanted to do production engineering. Had a place at college, only to be told I was too old at 17 ffs.
Been in the same place over 30 years now. Do I like it, hell yes. Do I get paid enough for the job I do, hell no.
However with my pesonal issues, the flexability this job offers me is the big plus.
I've had offers else where, but stayed to see what happened and it's turned out to be fab.

Ever since I was a wee lil' rapscallion: I've been consumed with cars/trucks,& especially motorcycles!
Being part of the 70's, during my formative years... I learnedcto indulge(think"Dazed and confused", the movie!) At 14, my stepfather entered the picture:& decided to teach me a trade to have something to fall back on! How did I know he worked at the #1 custom shop in Miami at the time... Seeing the paint/& customized vehicles:& chatting with a hippie guy doing a mural..( I learned he made $47.50 an hour in 1979! I was hooked!) That's what I was going to be/do! He told me, if that's what I wanted:that I'd HAVE TO BE bettercthan anyone else to keep from having shit handed my way!"Truer words were never spoken!" So began my lifelong pursuit of mastering my craft...34 years later: my work has graced all media's(multiple magazine spreads/& covers, television,& commercials!) I retired totally proud/& secure that my life's dedication to amazing toys was worthy of envious pride..! "Gear-head for life"! still have toys that are the envy of many:& rest easy never having been usurped of my title..("Bad-Assed MOFO!") YES: I STILL MISS IT! |

Glad to see there are plenty of people here who are enjoying their work. Also, good luck to those of you who are doing courses or looking at ways to change to a job you really want. Hope it works out well for you.

Had dreamed of becoming a midwife, didn't get onto the course so studied social work, but life side tracked me and I spent 10 years in sales and retail.
A chance encounter with someone I consider my fairy godmother got me back into social work and I've been in a job for almost 2 years that I adore. No Monday morning blues for me |

I'm in a public sector job, and I'm told i should be lucky I'm in it.
I fell into because i didn't know what else to do. Although i really enjoy it, i don't enjoy the politics.
If i could, I'd do something else... |

After years of dead end jobs and crap pay I went back to College and studied computers. I was always a bit of a Geek and loved hacking stuff (old school hacking not hacking as it is today), finally I found something I love and made it a mission to make sure it would sustain me, now I spend my day fixing broken machines and recovering data and I couldn't be happier. I think it's something else to actually love your job and not many can say they love theirs with a straight face. I only wish I had done it years ago, if you have a dream career and it's possible to achieve then ffs get up and do it now or you will regret it. |
