Why is everyone so polarised on the subject? Comments from either side I've heard so far are:
Con
It's not proven to be safe
The vape thingies explode all the time
It makes people start smoking real cigs
Pro
It's infinitely cheaper than smoking
It's safer than smoking real cigs
You don't smell like an old shoe in a pub bin any more
I myself switched two years or so ago and enjoy it, but I'd rather not smoke or vape at all.
What's everyone's thoughts? |

"My thoughts are simple nothing in life is 100% safe its their body and their choice "
I agree with Kola but really don't agree with either... I'm sure they will find some detriment to the body at some point and it's only replacing one habit with another... Really don't see the point in it at all but as Kola said... each to their own |

I stopped smoking nearly 3 years ago with the aid of champix and the smoking cessation group, going from smoking to vaping is just getting another habit in place of another, suppose it can be helpful if it gets you off the fags but in the long run you just end up with another habit |

"Sitting in a beer garden the other day, being surrounded by vapers is much more pleasant than being surrounded by smokers. I'm a non smoker." weird one this but you cant vape in a bar but can waft perfume or aftershave about which boils down to the same thing or deoderant in toilets which are harmful when inhaled

"If we're talking pollution, lets not ignore diesel vehicles and cities. Studies have shown a massive health risk associated with that. " exactly theres more harm done through transport than anything else but folk see it as a neccesity (even though it isnt) so very little is done about it.

For what my views are worth I feel smoking is very selfish as it costs the NHS millions per year and most smokers I know feel it should be their right to smoke where they like, even though it's their bad habit. A close friend of mine is a radiographer and most of their time is not spend looking for broken bones but X-Raying smokers lungs. Some might argue it keeps her in a job but with staff shortages due to cut backs they have plenty to do.
Sorry fabbers, strong feelings on smoking. |

Sorry fabbers, strong feelings on smoking." but your fine with the tax relief you feel in your pocket that the govt take from the sale of tobbaco products which far exceeds what is spent on the nhs with smoking related illness perhaps you should be treated on your taxation lvl ie non smoker drinker driver should be at the back of the cue sports related injury sorry go to the back of the line your right alot of smokers feel they should be able to smoke in certain places pubs being one of them most publicans at the time of theban would have preffered smoking or non smoking establishment signs at a pub but wasnt allowed now sales are down by around a third moral of this tale everything we decide to do is selfish this constant haranging of smokers gets tiresome most folk know the risk have weighed it up and for the present time find that acceptable. Im sure you take risks others wouldnt find acceptable but you do it anyway |

Spoken like a true smoker. For us non smokers we have to walk through plooms of smoke to get into pubs, music venues, HOSPITALS, uni's and colleges. Personally I would rather pay a little more tax and sleep happy at night knowing if I need the NHS that there will be enough staff who arnt worked to the there limits to treat me. |

Thats the thing it wouldnt be a little more tax it would be a lot more tax and no you shouldnt have to walk through plooms of smoke perhaps if your a smoker you should get a lge c tattoed on your forehead and stay behind the smoking line be herded into the comunual smoking pit far away from the non smokers unless of course theres work needs done across the non smokjng devide. Do you drive ? If you do what about the harm you cause me with your filthy gas guzzling pollutant passing monster. All to save you the extra 10 mins to walk to the shop for your msgs |

I stopped smoking and started vaping last year and I love it. But I can now see why none smokers get pissed off with smokers. I hate having to walk through clouds of smoke to get in/out of somewhere and the smell makes me feel sick. But I try not to judge as that was me untill last year. Even when I did smoke I did support the smoking ban. I used to fell sorry for my kids when we went out for something to eat and the had to put up with clouds of smoke. Xxxx |

Again, spoken like a true smoker.
Yes I do drive but I live in a small town and work outside of the town by quite a few miles. Me and 3 others car share to and from work where possible and I cycle or walk to most places in the town. Maybe if hospitals wern't full of dying smokers we wouldn't need to pay as much tax. Just a thought.
