Does anyone else that take them suffer loss of interest in sex ? Or is that just part of living with depression ? I feel so guilty as my Huby has a high sex drive but he is totally understanding and patient with me. On the other hand in my manic phases I am a horny little demoness ! Lol |

I tried to message you too but I'm a auld bugger
I would say 100% they lower your sex drive. I am coming off mine slowly and already I can feel lovely horny things happening again.
I appreciate we are all different but for me they had an impact on many things

I have been on anti depressants for a good few years and they definitely do reduce sex drive in the early stages after a few months I found that things started to get better, I found that taking different vitamins and ie zinc, vitamin c did definitely bring it back, obviously this varies in different people and sexes hopefully this helps. |

Its where you are mentally and physical.Low self-esteem. Emotional rollacosta. Depression is different for everyone. Very hard to put into words what it actually feels like .
What it does to you .its an illness.
Unless you have experienced it.you will never Truely understand it.
Do know talking about being honest how your feeling is very important.
Good luck you are not alone .xx |

Actually do the opposite to me. I had read they lowered libido but no the only thing I got was hornier when I could stay awake.
The "anti"depressants made me worse, also I would drop off to sleep sometimes in mid conversation
I came off them about 18 months ago and use other sources to keep me going

A lot of anti-depressants list loss of libido as a side-effect - but depression can also do this so can be hard to separate the cause. If it's a serious issue affecting your relationship I'd talk with your GP as it may be worth trying different medication. |

I had an experience within ex girlfriend who had depression. She lost all interest in sex, but occasionally was insatiable. Unfortunately at the time I didn't have the understanding I do now and I ended up torching the relationship because I got tired of trying to initiate and being rejected, then when she initiated I wasn't up for it due to the previous rejection, which in turn worsened her depression.
Make sure you both keep a good line of communication open regarding sex and you should be fine. It's real tough, but communication is definitely the way to help. |

As someone who works in mental health it's more likely to be the depression causing it certain tablets can cause loss of libido but many can bring it back but usually take about six weeks to kick in properly after beginning new tablets |

Never took anti-depressants for depression. I did, however, go on quite a counselling sessions, whcih I found totally invaluable.
It's bloody hard work, mentally and physically exhausting, but I would recommend anyone with depression going down that route. |

Similar for me; went with CBT over pills when I was having a hard time. I feel like the CBT did more to treat the cause rather than manage the symptoms. Totally get that everyone is a bit different though, so whatever works for you is the best solution. |

I agree. No two cases of depression are the same because no two people are the same with the same experiences, symptoms and causes. For me, CBT was totally ineffective and if I'm honest more than a little destructive. My saving grace was medication. There can indeed be many sideffects, for me, with my GP's help they were manageable and infinity more successful than anything else.
My advice, such as it is, would be to do what's right for YOU with the help of your doctor. Other people's treatment may not suit you.
Good luck. |

I came off my meds and did meditation etc. Took a course on Mental Health First Aid which in turn made me do a Post Grad in CBT.
Studying CBT with the intention of helping others especially as I was doing an Intro to Counselling at the same time knocked me over the edge.
Yes I'm now a qualified Therapist but ma heid is fucked.

In a previous life I spent time in a well known psychiatric hospital for the well to do and you've never seen so much shagging both while am inpatient and once people were outside. |
