Hi everyone ,
just replyed to a post on the main forum page but know a lot of ppl will only read the scotland forums so thought id add it here .....
having just seen the awful pictures of poor Jade Goody in the news n press today and having suffred from cervical cancer myself and have cum out the other side i would like to urge all the fems on here to make sure they have their regular smear test done it only takes a few mins n does save lifes i know its an embarassing thing to have done and i hate getting it done too
but know i skip in to my clinc every time as i know its got to be done ....
please dont think cause u dont have symptoms ul b ok as i didnt n was diagnosed with a CIN3
TAKE THE TIME N GET IT DONE

I have to agree with Jacqui on this, as a guy i cant comment on the discomfort involved with a speculum but i know how i would feel if i lost Michelle to Cervical cancer. So please ladies attend your appointments its a small price to pay to be safe. |

jacs i totally admire you honey, i went for mine on monday. i had pre cancerous cells when i was 13 not a good thing to have at that age. been treated for it over the past few years and have the all clear, so need to wait on next results but ladies to get checked out xxxxxxxxx god bless ya jacs xxxx

wow yummy 13 omg hun that must have been horrific for u too but hey were survivors n ty for u comments just thought it would be nice to bring something like this to the forums i think anything to do with sexual health should be brought up in here more often xxxx
perhaps some links to some heath issues would be a good thing for the site too know many will say its ment to be a site a bout fun but its also about being safe n protected too xxxx

glad to know Jacs was the victim but now she's got away with coz she got it tested on time... well done Jacs hunni.

A couple of years ago i had a scare where i thought i had a lump in my testicles. I had test at the doctors and it turned out to be inflammation which went away with a course of antibiotics.
As Jacs said its important that you get checked no matter how silly you might think it will be.
Don't be scared of yourself checked out. |

we have to fight this horrible horrible thing too many people shove it under the carpet and say it wont happen to me. might not happen to you but could happen to someone close to you. took me 10 mins on monday for my smear. go get checked and if any guys want checked im here with warm hands xxxx

cance ran in my family so yea i always get my check ups my sis passed away with breast cancer..hence why i had 2 have a breast op 2 years ago 2 make sure i was ok so yea ur check ups r real importan xx |

I lost a breast to cancer, have undergone operations, extensive chemo and radio therapies and had a reconstruct op now.
All I can say is constantly check yourself or get another to do it for you. I am lucky to be here and appreciate every day I now have. My body is a little patchwork quilt now but it has never stopped me from enjoying my fun and I can truly say it has never ever been an issue with guys either. Better some discomfort with a mammogram than leave friends and family xxxxxxxxxx |

Those who put there smears off please dont because you may think you are healthy and well but some dont have a clue they have cancer......the cancer spreads and every minute counts. Think most people have the attitude it wont happen to me......sadly it may !!
Those who know me well will be aware of the absolute nightmare that is happening myself and my husbands family. We have 3 members of our family who have been struck down......one has just come through having breast cancer loosing one breast....and another 2 close members one with Lukemia whom is really struggeling with the fight at this moment and another with cancer whos fight at the moment has caused him to have an op and contract MRSA.
All in all, all i can say is you have 1 life so live it !! You never know what is around the corner....and all those folks on this site bitching, causing probs etc please take a log hard look at yourself because lifes very very precious. |

im so scared of cancer i lost a good friend to, so i go for my smears every 2 yrs, and have a breast exam once yr, cause something like can easily be missed,
and jo babes, sorry to hear about what goin on with your family at the moment, your right life and short, so be sure to make the most of it xXx |

Jacs and Yummy apreciate ur comments... i agree and always go for a smear... diff cancer i know but my 8yr old lost an eye due to retanablastoma its very rare she was 3ths wen noticed a diff in the eye she was 13ths wen it got taken out to save her life and i also have a tumur in my foot had 2 ops already to get rid and it keeps cuming back at mo its not cancer still go for checks ... u can never be to careful with health always get regular checks dont think it wont happen to you ... life is indeed tooo short.

I know this thread has been inactive for the last five days, but I can't stress enough how important it is for us girls to keep on top of our smear tests.
I got an abnormal smear result at the end of January and was originally told that they would repeat the smear in six months. I went back to see my doctor today as I'd had some symptons I was worried about and have now been referred early for colposcopy. Still in slight shock, but I would urge all females to make that appointment and keep it if you're overdue.

mrs EK try not to get yourself into a state untill you have be and got it looked checked out, im in a the same i have the skin cancer clinic nxt week, and im freakin at the thought,,,, but im just ploddin along, till i know something is wrong, or everything is ok, then i can really freak out..... as im writing this im watchin jade goody's programe on living, god i take my hat of to that girl, all she is goin thru and she still manages to smile, |

smears mamogrammes ladies please please please have them done.. lost a breast to cancer and have recently had a scare at other end!! get it checked.. even if it turns out to be nothing.. better safe than sorry x |

yeah Avril its better being safe than sorry for sure im off work again due to illness that im waiting to see a neurologist for n every time something like this happens u convince urself its something more than it is just get it done everyone a few mins of discomfort is not worth yrs of heatache

Glad to hear girls you're going to get yourselves checked. (and boys, keep a handle on your bits too! lol)
I'm now just waiting to hear when my hospital appointment is. sometimes easier said than done not worrying, but i'm keeping myself busy with work and a possible house move so not doing too bad. at the end of the day, we're all human and it's human nature to be fightened and / or worried of the unknown.

when i was waiting 4 my results it was just a nightmare and when i finaly got the letter telling me my biopsy results were in n could i attend the clinic 3 weeks later for my results were just a living hell knowing they knew the results yet i had to wait a further 3weeks to find so just a wee warnig hun ur results will take time to cum thro but try n stay positive xxxxx

Just been reading through all the messages and its good to hear that everyone is positive regardless of the fact is they have had bad or good news.
I always have my check ups and I have had 3 lump scares myself over the last few years so would never let anything go.
Great post all and to those still waiting on results hope they in soon and all good news.
To those of you that keep putting off dont cause life is way too short as it is.

Well, that's the colposcopy completed and biopsy's taken on Friday. Still feeling a bit tender but only because I normally suffer from painful periods but well worth it. Fingers crossed should have the results within the next four weeks or so.
Really sad to hear of Jade's passing over the weekend. Certainly a stark reminder to all us girls to keep on top of our appointments.

glasgow just so u know hun when u do get ur letter all it will tell u is that ur results r back with an appointment to go back to the clinic could be two three weeks after u get the letter i had to wait a further three weeks for my treatment to begin xxxx

had mine done a few weeks back but had to ask when i was due 1 and they said last month????no letter or anything,as i thot it was still 5 yrs but now its down to 3,,good job i asked ehe?
for all the ladies wondering when the last 1 was just ask!! better to be safe than sorry xx

janda smear tests r a postcode lottery
depends on the area u live in wheather its done every 3yrs or every 5yrs when i was diagnosed it done a lot of research and some results would shock u xxxx

And to think there was some guy on TV this week saying that screening for breast and cervical cancer was a waste of time......easy for him to say, he doesnt have breasts or a cervic....was a bit of a tit tho !! Well done Cum for bringing this to the fore. xx |

thing is cancer in many situation has no symptoms.......my mum went for a routine scan (mamogramme)just just over 2 years ago, 2 weeks later she recieved letter she was recalled back and within 3 weeks she had an emergency mastectomy and started chemo.........she had absolutley no idea, no signs no symtoms nothing !!! was a massive shock and its been a really hard and long road !!
so cmon girl check yourself and go gets scans, and i also urge men to do routine checks also !! why put it off and risk your life?? |

Awww, jacs, so pleased it turned out to be nothing too serious and that you're getting treatment now for it.
Well, I got my results, the pre-cancerous cells warrant treatment so have to go in for laser treatment next friday. Means we'll be out of action for a while but not too sure how long for - will have to ask the consultant. lol.
Feeling a little better about it all now to be honest (probably because my mum will be there to hold my hand lol).
