Does anyone use anything in particular apart from kik ?

Smartphones are so dumb sometimes and they're responsible for dumbing people down aswell....oh the irony....the smarter technology gets...the dumber the general population becomes ....I stay away from apps as I don't want big brother knowing absolutely everything about me...assuming that they don't already know lol

Yep BBC news gets a lot of use. (That's as in the broadcasting BBC as opposed to Fab connotations). Map app is useful too.

If you get a smartphone running the cyanogenmod OS they are great for privacy. You can customise/control how much info your device shares with each app.

The fact it contains no spyware or bloatware is a brucey bonus!

Worth looking into if you like your apps
