Ah Football and central Scotlands obsession with it.

Only time its acceptable to wear a footy shirt for me is if your A a child or B about to run out on the pitch to play. I can kinda understand people wearing them to the game I guess but a scarf is good enough for me. I always feel like a right prick in a football top. Probably got something to do with the absolute rockets you see who wear them religiously

Football is a sport. But too many people think it's more important than life it self. I'm all for being a fanatical fan of a team you support but just don't let it boil over into abuse or hatred just because someone is wearing a different shirt

I fail to see the hostility towards people, male or female, in football tops. I own loads. I personally don't choose to wear them outwith the home apart from when playing 5-a-side, but it certainly doesn't bother me those that do.

People like community, association and identifying with something they are passionate about.

To vilify people in football tops seems no more bizarre to me that scoffing at people who wear their favourite band or artist on a t-shirt.

Whilst I agree a football shirt on a grown man in public may not be the best look, there are many other looks that aren't that great either. Like everything, it's down to individual choice.

Picking on people in football tops smacks of snobbery to me.

This issue causes big enough fights on the forums never mind in the street!

I will always support my team but don't need an overpriced t-shirt to prove it!

Just think if your in the wrong place at wrong time with wrong top on, well we all know the rest!

Unfortunately some can't separate football from religion and vice versa!

Live and let live, if you want to wear a football top crack on!

Depends on the age of your son I guess. I see no problem with kids or teens wearing football attire. Its the 35 year old neds cutting about town using a sport as an excuse to abuse each other I have a problem with. I'm a football fan btw and I do support one of the 'big' (haha i'm having a laugh there) Glasgow clubs. Both of them have huge problems with bigotry within their support and personally I wouldn't want to be seen walking down the road tied to either of them. But as you say its completely up to the individual if they want to wear them or not, nobodies business but theirs. Doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on it

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

Also I wasn't trying to suggest everyone who has a footy top in their wardrobe and decides to wear it out is a 'rocket' just that the vast majority of the people I see in town in said clothing do tend to be.

I'm a proper football fan and would never wear my teams colours on match days or any other day.

The bigotry issue has obviously calmed down because the 2 main Glasgow teams are playing in different leagues.

Watch this space next season when Scotland's worst issue rears its head again, actually is one of the things that sometimes makes me ashamed to be Scottish. The vile hatred towards another human being is utterly disgusting.

Football has to be the most boring sport on the planet, I've never found it interesting, even that Indian version of brutish bulldogs called "Kabadi" that used to be on channel 4 on a Sunday morning was better.

I wear mine if I'm doing cardio since most have climacool but don't wear them sitting about the house or anywhere else. Saying that, I don't get what the problem is with football tops. My mate wears his Rugby tops all the time and nobody has ever mentioned those.

Football tops are a turn off.

Even Ronaldo in a football top is a turn off. Wait, even Ronaldo is a turn off for that matter.

Was in hospital for better part of a week...thankfully after two days I got moved to another room, but first two days were spent with a noisy, rude, unpleasant, argumentative and ungrateful "football fan" (i know, i know, not representative of all fans!)

He wore his team's entire strip (including the socks FFS!!) the whole time. Didn't change it, didn't shower every day, just sprayed on enough lynx to double as a fumigant.

In a room where one of the other guys was in with a lung problem!

I got moved thank fuck...was walking past a few days later, same mingin football top. He was screaming at the nurses that he wanted pizza not the "shite you've offered me".

Not a fan.

If you're over 21 shops shouldn't be allowed to sell you them. For kids only and I cringe when I see men wearing them around the shops for no reason etc.

For me. It's not what top you might enjoy wearing. It's the aggro, name calling, violence and pathetic childishness that goes along with it.

You don't see us geeks getting in a scrap over whether Star Wars or Star Trek is better.

Football will always be associated with violent thugs, and it's for that reason I avoid anyone who wears football tops as we're unlikely to have anything in common.

Tarring with the same brush, certainly, but it's so endemic that I prefer to just avoid completely.

Personally I'm a Preston fan (harry), sorry as its a Scottish forum..

I admit that they do look a little cheesy but there is a flip side... When you're passionate about the club, nothing gives you more pride than to put it on.. I don't wear it unless I'm going to the game or the pub to watch on telly... To be worn on holiday its acceptable (just) as its sometimes a good ice breaker when meeting potential swingers lol...

I (April) agree with Harry as I know he is passionate about his Preston.. however i do draw the line at it being suitable holiday attire.. lol.. unless of course they are playing! x

As a guy who has regularly attended football all over Scotland unlike(it seems) the majority of posters on here... but ask any fan of any club n the answer will be the same. It's the ones who DON'T wear colours or the shirts that cause all the trouble. Some very narrow minded opinions on here from people just because of someones choice of clothing.

Grown men in football shirts is no different to grown men in stars wars clothing. Well it is... I'd never be seen dead in anything sci fi

On matchdays I'll go with extended family and friends. Support my team in the red n yellow then zio the jacket up. Tartan scarf so no offence can be gave.

It's for me the Old Firm fans and the obsession with flashing the colours every week day. Sorry but if I walk through town badge on show I must be at least trying to make it visual who I support. It just causes trouble.

However... Scotland top any day of the year is fine if I go to England/Wales and someone's wearing their home colours then good. So they should.

Girl in a rugby top tho! Yeah!
