forth road bridge closure
Jump to: Newest in thread
Apparently the south bound side of the forth road bridge has been closed due to a defect being found in the metalwork, it will remain closed until it can be inspected in daylight,
Expect huge delays as it will be a single lane contraflow on the northbound side |

"Closed for at least 24 hours from midnight "
In fact latest tweet saying that not only due to the fault with the bridge structure the high winds expected over the weekend will leave the bridge closed indefinitely |

Well our planners have just said they will need to add 3-4 hours to our days to allow for traffic and some of the north runs may need 2 drivers now to share the driving. Oh what fun. Especially at Xmas |

I cross the thing everyday. Today it took me 6.5 hrs to go from Kirkcaldy to my head office near Edinburgh airport and back to Kirkcaldy. Thank god for travel mugs and thermos flasks for my coffee, if the weather had been better I could have got the tartan rug out and had a wee picnic at the roadside. |

12v Travel kettles can make a brew in 20mins if stuck in traffic...the city bypass taught me that lesson.

"A wee tip for people moaning about long delays is to get up and out on your way much earlier"
I don't disagree with you but would like you to consider one small thing. People who rely on childcare so they can go to work may not be able to leave an hour or so earlier, nurseries or childminders may not be available, or it may simply not be affordable to have to pay for those extra hours care. |

Exactly, can you imagine that conversation, excuse me guys there's a strong chance the bridge is going to fall down, can you just nip out in gale force wind and rain and fix it for us |

I wonder if Nicola will grab this as a photo opportunity? HV jacket, hard hat and Jimmy Choos. |

The issue with the FRB has been known about for at least 5 years.
If you google Truss End and there are several links that come up that link to transport scotland and the bridge website itself. A RFQ (request for quote) type thing was put out in 2010 for the truss ends to be fixed but was cancelled.
Apparently though, these truss ends cited in 2010 are different to the ones causing the issue.... they arent the same, oh no, completely different.... aye, course they are.
I travel to West Lothian Daily - I am quite lucky in that I have a few options re transport (Work from home, travel at stupid o'clock to miss the morning rush etc) but feel for those that are limited to set working hours etc.

How has the forth road bridge and all the rain affected you?
1:Two training days canceled down south.
2:two meets canceled.
3:all Shopping trips south canceled.
4:My right rear car wheel seized after parking it overnight and had to be teased and poked back to life.
5:My TV watching has increased exponentially
6:Half the people driving though my home town are driving like angry nutters.
How has the closer affected you? |

Blimey! The trains best get their act together then! "
What have the trains got to do with it. They've pulled services from the west to add extra carriages so they're doing what they can. I work away and commute at stupid o clock from Fife and not once have I thought the trains better get their act together. |
