Socials are just that - a group of fabbers meeting up in a pub/function room and being social. There is no play, just a chance to meet lots of different people, male, female and couples (and before DLT says it - even chewbacca too  ).
The advantage is that you meet lots of people, makes new friends and can get verified too. Check the forums regularly as they are posted on there mostly.
