Sales of alcohol has went up in Scotland. We drink more than our neighbours in England. Why ??
Is it because its our way of coping with our crazy weather??
2 just more sociable like to chat to new people
3 its cheaper than counciling ?:
4 we just like a swally its party of our culture ??

This is such a worrying statistic..its also quite a raw subject for me. I lost my dad 4 years ago due to alcoholic liver disease. He was only 52. I've seen my mum go through rehab and now I see her old and frail and very ill due to years of drinking. She's only 63.
So many think nothing of their drinking habits because it seems to be what everyone is doing. It's scary.
You don't need to be d*unk every day to be an alcoholic either.
I think minimum pricing would be a great idea. Though I don't think it's enough. I'm not some anti social kill joy. I just know the damage it can do. |

Its finding out why people drink. Honestly don't think if the prices went up it would make a difference . Just go for cheaper brands .

I think it's to do with the drink drive limit being cut, people aren't satisfied with only having a half at the most so they just ditch the car and get pissed rather than having a pint

Pretty sure it a cultural thing as well, on west coast is accepted to get tanked up, just go into most west coast towns any nite of the week. I think the weather does play a part also though and in a lot of west coast areas there ain't too much else to do. |

As a recovering alcoholic who has been dry for nearly a decade I found it to be a cultural habit passed from generation downward
Doesn't help when supermarkets can sell 4 pack of cheap lager for less than 4 pack of still water |

im not sure i would agree with the figures that scots drink more than the english as i reckon it's part of the conspiracy to paint a stereotype of the scots as jobless,alky wifebeating nutters...in my experience english folk fair love a pint or 20 on an hourly basis lol |
