Glasgow sends a message to Westminster

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

apparently today a march left Kelvingrove Park in the west of the city and headed through the centre to Glasgow Green.

Organiser Neil Mackay said the march had been a rally of ordinary Scots and not political parties.

Just saw it on news not sure what it was about but probably very interesting

Only a few hundred turned out by the looks of it. Looks like the lure of 'freedom square' is fading for all but the very determined few.

so you are happy with the tories hitting the poorest hardest instead of trying to get the multi-national companies to pay their taxes that they dont pay and amounts to billions per yr?

Still better together.

Its not about being 'happy' with the Tories hammering the poor. Nobody in Scotland wants a Tory govt (cept Mundell and the SNP) are happy with the Tories in power.

Any chance of independence has gone for years. If the Nats get behind Labour, the Lib Dems and the others, we can get rid of the Tories.

The Nats can do nothing on their own.

Were there the slightest chance that's true, Nicola and Gordon Lamb would be dragging the country headlong into another Referendum and that ain't happening.

We all know why.

Yes we are! As for hammering the poorest in society it shows that you haven't digested the facts of recent legistlation.

If the snp/scottish government feels so strongly about then why don't they raise local income as they can do by upto 3% or stop wasting money on vanity projects like gaelic road signs.

I'm not going to get into a stramash about Scotland's future - and much as I favour independence - I'm in no rush - I think that there are wounds that need to be healed first.

That said - I'm not minded to heed the opinion of those who couldn't / wouldn't see the change that came for Scotland in the last election.

I used to enjoy the joke about Scotland having more Pandas than Tory MPs. It is almost as funny as the one about Scotland having more Proclaimers than Labour MPs.

I think that it can be both - if it is dead - which it appears to be, it can't be a party for the working class - by virtue of it being dead. There you go - I just - as in barely rather than reasonably, managed to link Labour and the working class - something that they haven't managed for decades.

Dead in Scotland; never to return

and a good possibility in rest of UK too due to the poor choice of candidates

I would love to hear what the "working classes " have to thank the SNP for...they have not done anything to help the disadvantaged and while you lot piss around worrying about independence...our education, health, and policing is approaching "joke status"...oh we have lots of useless windmills ...powered by the hot air of the Nats...and the arch buffoon Alex

Objectively reading this thread, and in various newspapers on similar topics, the only people or the vast majority,'going on about' anything, are unionists. That aggressive attitude is fuelling the breakup of the UK to a greater extent than any political party.

I'm not sure why this is done but it reads like schoolyard bullying.

Given that the thread is about 'sending a message to Westminster', you may have to reconsider your objectivity.

Glasgow

George Osbourne chaired a meeting of European finance ministers to get companies like Google and Amazon to pay taxes in the country that the sale originated.

These big companies just play the system as laws were drawn up years before these sort of companies were even set up.

It is a European problem that is hopefully going to be fixed.

I note the SNP are refusing to allow any motion regarding independence to be debated at their upcoming conference.

You wonder what they're scared of.
