Was reading in the paper at lunchtime that Tommy Sheridan says he made a 'mistake' when he visited the swingers club in Manchester...twice!

Aye, I'll bet he was full of sorrow and regret at his huge mistake as he was leaning back, having his cock sucked by a random woman!! Bright orange twat!!

The point is, he should have admitted it to his SSP colleagues up front and that would have been the end of it, politicians live through sex scandals all the time.

You've been Fanta'd not only denied it, but had the balls to go to court and fight it.

I hope he has to pay the papers back their £200,000 stupid twat.

When Jeffery Archer got done for perjury he got thrown in jail...al be it a very cushy jail that was probably a bit better than being a Butlins!

Gail? Really? I don't know if I cold go somewhere I knew Sheridan had been...mind you, she has something about her!

There is something there about her. I think its just bragging rights to say "I was there"

he isn't the first politician, to lie about something, and he certainly won't be the last, very few of our politicians, are capable of telling the truth, when a lie will suffice. As to whether he went to a sex club or not, why should that be in the public domaine?

If he had either been man enough to come out and admit to his "flaws" or just kept quietit would have all gome away with possibly some credit to the man, but oh no! Mr Sheridan sees it as an oppertunity to extract money from the paper that released the story!!! Who says capitalism is dead!

And Gail Sheridan - not in a million years!!!!!

I totally get his first reaction to "just deny it" in terms of a story in a national paper about going to a club, everyones nightmare i bet.

But the rest is a chancer pushing his luck and for that ending up where he has.

I’m still sceptical about it all, he had more charges than a second hand nokia that were decreasing by the day, and they finally got him on one, personally I feel it’s a bad outcome as it’s a victory for the news of the world who are guilty most of the time of printing lies about people, it’s just a shame more people don’t take them on.

It’s not a victory for the News Of The World – it was the crown who brought the charges of perjury against him. If he was not so stupid and arrogant to accuse News Of The World of printing lies about him when he knew the reports were true then he would not be in this mess today. Saying that he will probably serve any prison sentence in one of the more cushier jails and be home every other week end.

It’s well known that it is very difficult and expensive to sue a newspaper for libel and that’s why more people do not attempt it.

"Despite the fact Tommy was obviously guilty am just wondering if former News of the World columnist Anvar Khan will also face perjury charges for lying under oath?"

good question...

the problem was the fact that he lied... the problem with the news of the world if they now ask for the money back is that they didn't get the information from her.... but got the information via the illegal tapping of his mobile phone and hacking into his answer messages

there are no winners here......

most newspapers would cease to exist if that was the case!! yes i agree that todays media intrude on peoples private lives like never before.......hence if you are going to be a public figure then you need to be sure that you are comfortable with the public knowing everything and unfortunately in tommy's case that means everything that goes on in every department of your life!!

sad but true that gossip and scandal sell newspapers

Tommy Sheridan had every opportunity to get out from under the story.

But just like Jeffrey Archer and Jonathan Aitken before him, he thought he was smarter than he was.

Keeping in mind that the arrogant prick still hasnt actually admitted he did it yet.

I await a 'piss yourself laughing' road to Damascus conversion to Catholicism after sentencing, with an eagerness beyond description.

Can't you just see a humble Reverand Tommy, in his dog collar, bible in hand spreading his message on a Sunday Morning tv show in a few years from now.

I know, mellowing in my dotage.

S'funny though, anyone who has studied history throughout time will be able to give you an endless list of great men and women who were 'top of the world ma' in their field, only to be undone by the smallest of things. And always because they started to believe their own publicity. And thought they could either ignore or dismiss any advice they got to the contrary, even when it came from their inner circle.

Prison will be interesting. Both Aitken, and to some extent Archer, were smart enough to shut the fuck up, do the time, grab a touch of humility on the way and manage to lead some sort of public life afterwards.

I'm just not sure if Tommy will be smart enough to do the same.

It will be genuinely sad and embarrassing for both him and us if he comes out the same firebrand he was when he went in.

Because nobody will be listening anymore. And he will become a figure of ridicule.

Then again, he might move to a distant island and set up home with George Galloway...

...if the Moon isnt out when you howl at it, does anyone hear?

Three years is barely enough. He'll be out in no time.

The courts tend to take a dim _iew of being lied to, so why should he be let out? - that's just saying that telling lies in court is fine...

"Three years is barely enough. He'll be out in no time.

Most of the time telling lies in court is accepted by the court. Everyone who says 'It wisnae me, ah wisnae there' and is subsequently convicted has, by definition, told lies in court yet they are rarely, if ever, brought to book for perjury.

By the same token, the cops who say 'we know it was him, we saw him do it' and the accused is subsequently acquited don't find themselves in the dock for perjury.

As for being let out. That's the way the system works. Less than three years attracts an automatic 50% reduction. Tommy isn't a danger to society so there's every chance he'll go to the open estate soon and be allowed tagged days and weeekends out - just like any other prisoner in his situation.

If it didn't work like that we'd need many, many more prisons.

He got away lightly. Remember it was his lies that ended in the biggest crimanal trial in Scottish history. Paid for by our taxes. Nobody forced Tommy to take the NOTW to court. His ego did that. When he won, he was in effect stealing money by telling lies.

Also, how many poor sods have done time, lost their property, and gained a criminal record through listening to that tanned twat saying don't pay your poll tax? Alright for him in his nice bought house in Cardonald.

At least his arse will get tanned in prison!

The average jail term for someone who commits perjury is 4 months and in 78% of all convicted perjury cases someone had went to jail for evidence the perjuror has given..........In Tommy Sheridan's case, no one was jailed. no one was injured. What's the sentence for attempting to steal several hundred thousands pounds, and then deliberately costing the taxpayer over £5 million, by trying to cover up your crime?

I really don't know why he lied then went to Court to sue the paper that exposed his sexual activities. Can only presume it was to save his marriage.

He always had a reputation as a player.

But that all having been said, he did an awful lot to help the poor in the Thatcher years and went to jail protecting folk against Sheriff Officers and the Poll Tax

He spoke passionately about independence and is - and will always be - someone I admire.

So which paper had the story where he admits it was a mistake? I obviously missed that one and would like to have a read.

"I really don't know why he lied then went to Court to sue the paper that exposed his sexual activities.

FORMER News of the World editor Andy Coulson has been cleared of lying at the trial of former socialist MSP Tommy Sheridan after the case against him collapsed.

Coulson, 47, had been on trial for around two weeks at the High Court in Edinburgh, where he denied committing perjury during the 2010 case in Glasgow.

Trial judge Lord Burns upheld a defence motion that Coulson, from Kent - a former director of communications for the Prime Minister - had no case to answer.

Delivering his ruling, Lord Burns said he had “sustained the arguments in favour of the accused” and told Coulson: “I acquit you of the charge.”

The fact he lied under oath is bad enough but the way he cross examined that poor girl Katrina Trolle about her sexual history in a courtroom is beneath contempt as far as I'm concerned, especially when he knew he was lying

The poor girl
