Just read on fb today about the nhs wanting their staff to lose weight to set a example to patients what's your take on this and please kind words.

In my opinion I think it's atrosious how nhs staff would be treated.

I don't think any employer should judge their staff like this. That said I remember one GP who suggested I loose weight and it was very much pot kettle black. To the point he even said that to me himself.

I think each to their own. Very few of us can honestly say we practice what we preach all the time.

They should have a look at the hours nhs staff work ....there is no way you can fit in a healthy lifestyle when working long hours and shifts ..

People can live a healthy lifestyle regardless of there working hours prepare meals the night before and choose to exercise rather than sit on the couch and eat takeaways I work 2 weeks of 12-14 hour shifts a day and still go to gym at night for a bit can't go hard at it but I still go and do a bit . Stopped smoking in hospital grounds now which I think is excellent nothing worse than seeing people standing outside a workplace smoking if I owned a business I wouldn't allow it looks very unprofessional and nobody wants to deal or be treated by someone who stinks of cigarettes

Totally agree with you .. I attended weight management appointment s... for 6 months .. I was repeatedly told shift work ruins your chances of losing weight .. especially if you work night shifts ...

I was told that I needed to change my job ..

and nobody would want to work for a two bit dictator how folk decide to live their lives is entirely their choice and certainly not the concern of an employer as long as they live up to their end of the contract job done

Bloody cheek. Anyway larger women are far more sexy and I personally prefer curves on a lady and think it is an asset not a burden. Uber-skinny isn't good for your health either!

As a ex-nhs employee, doing a twelve and a hour shift that involves a hell of alot of moving and carrying of people. It's bloody hard work and now you want us to diet too... FUCK and OFF.

You can't use working shifts as an excuse! I'm a shift worker and managed to shift 3.5 stone. It all planning and preparation.

Yeh I get what they're saying about setting examples etc. but if a doctor is saying you have to loose weight as its detrimental to your health then why wouldn't you.

I don't believe making nhs workers loose weight is the right thing to do however. Only if it becomes such an issue that they can't do their role.

I agree. as long as you do the job. that's it. that's as far as the employer/employee relationship goes its of no employers business what your lifestyle choices are in anyway. and they have absolutely no right to judge or penalise an employee based on such nonsense or even to suggest that they make personal changes just to suit their so called standards

"Don't care what the staff look like or what their weight is n body looks like they do a faffin brilliant job"

Have to say this is a fantastic comment and was one of my many comments about this I don't care what their weight is aslong as they give the nhs a better name look after people who are in dire need of medical condition why try to change their lifestyle I just thinks it discrimination next they will pray apon sexuality, race. And tbh sometimes weight issues can't be helped I think nhs really need to get their priorities straightened out big time and start using the money wisely on researching and facilities maybe even paying their staff better

I second that lol. The joys of our nhs. I'm over weight and work non stop doesn't stop me from providing the amazing care I deliver. I spend more time at work that I do anything else. Shift work sucks I have to force myself to the gym after finishing a 14 hour shift then do a work out and before you know it it is time to get up and do it again next morning for a 7am start. I am sure a lot of other nhs staff do the same as it's hard to fit other activities in your daily life on days off and with working a rotation rota with one week nights then days then weekends it's pretty rubbish. Nurses and clinical support workers don't do the job for the long hours or the rubbish pay it's for the passion we have of helping people. You can run a ward with no doctors but you could never run a ward with no nurses or clinical support workers

An absoloutely great point nhs would t be nhs without the passion of the job it's just ridiculous don't know why I feel it's personal but as I have never worked for nhs but I see the struggle of short staff and the pressure they get under

My wife has been in hospital now for over 5 weeks.

Can honestly testify to the amazing work ALL NHS staff do!

They are amazing people, who are overworked, underpaid and under appreciated!

I take it, the same would go for potential customers that would be willing to part with their money to you? You wouldn't want to deal with them because their smokers? Who said dictatorship was dead.

Seems like a step too far.

Though I do think cafes in hospitals and sports centres should serve healthy food - one sports centre I know seems to specialise in burgers, chips and sausage rolls which seems perfectly designed to counter any good done by going to exercise in the first place.

hhhhmmmm.

You obviously have a lot of energy!

I can only imagine how hard it is for the nurse who just worked a twelve hour shift in a demanding roll to think "yeah, i feel like a work out " or "yeah, can't wait to make dinner"!

A bit judgmental i think!

Yes but that is a genuine reason so that in case of having to abandon ship you are able - the NHS example is a bit different because they are being told not to be overweight to 'set an example' rather than it affecting their ability to do the job.
