I was going to wait till December when I hit 40 before starting to think about responsible things like getting a will done however recent events prove you genuinely can get knocked over in the street tomorrow so I'm getting my finger out now. I was thinking of one of those cheapy DIY ones you can get from the post office or WH Smith not cos I'm a cheapskate OK I want to save a lawyers fee but also cos I'd be leaving everything solely to my brother ie I have no ex, kids, wife, skeletons in the closet etc and these DIY ones are only really recommended in such cases ie where there is only one executer/beneficiary. Anyone have any tips? The main question is are they as legally binding as one that goes through a lawyer my investigations thus far seem to suggest this is the case.

If check if they were legal in Scotland those DIY wills. Might be a different format for Scotland and England.

Some solicitors (can't remember which one) advertise on radio to do it for you for a small donation to a charity. I heard it last year.

Hope this helps.

You can get wills drawn up by a solicitor in November every year for a ninety five quid donation to Willaid. Www.willaid.org.uk

In addition to ensuring your will is properly written, a solicitor will normally store it for you.
