Social Class; which are you?
In Society today most are born into a Social Class without even knowing it, as you get older, distinctions of education, income, wealth, culture & social network become evident but should they be determined by one’s own individual achievement in such a society or what one has been passed down?
There has always been the 3 main classes and it has often been suggested that there should be one further class (identified by “4”)
Do you recognise these classes and if so which are you? Or do you consider yourself going down the Marxist route.
1; Upper class - composed of those who are rich, well-born, or both (the one percent)
2; Middle class – Well educated work force in technological economies, usually owning property hove of value £300,000 +
3; Lower class - Those employed in low-paying wage jobs with very little economic security. The term "lower class" also refers to persons with low income
4; Underclass—those who are long-term unemployed and/or homeless, especially those receiving welfare from the state. The latter is analogous to the Marxist term

I'd say I'm somewhere between middle and lower, im in a well paid job but don't bother with luxuries like a £300K house, I'd rather spend all my cash on holidays and still live in an area considered "lower class"
Can't stand snobs anyway :p |

only in a society such as ours would someones class be determained by their wealth, personally I judge a persons class by their humanity, respect and compasion for others not by how much cash they are worth or how many bedrooms they have in their property |

and what happened to working class ... or no need to class myself into a class ... class as im happy with who I am and what I am?
Is it just me or does anyone else find the thread divisive ?

Dividing people into classes and pigeon holing is for the elitist's. We are who we are. Experience in life often shows that those who have the least, give the most. |

Think class is far to hard to define in a modern society!
I was never born with the silver spoon in my mouth although my parents were never badly off! They worked hard for everything they had!
I always maintained the same point of _iew, you get what you deserve out of life if your willing to work for it!
I'm happy being who I am regardless of class! |

I suspect that this post didn't go the way the op expected.
Soon we will see "user no longer on site"
Cynical?
Btw op, criticising someone's profile isn't really cricket. Possibly shows what class you are in.

I just open the threads for discussion, doesn't matter what way they go as long as they get response and this thread has a heck of a lot of discussion and response.
Like it or not, we live in Britain and with living in Britain comes class division which has evolved over centuries, you all vote for MP's and I can assure you the majority of MP's all see themselves in certain position of the class scale.
The profile I criticised was saying "no fatties please" I guess everyone has a choice
p.s. I see you have also hidden your profile |

Curious to know where you got your definitions of the class system from as I don't think it is a true reflection of modern Britain. Whilst I find this kind of topic interesting I do think it is divisive - unnecessarily so.
No matter what your personal circumstances your contribution to society should not then determine your status in society.

Since when does someone's monetary value define them as a person? Some of the biggest idiots I've ever encountered have been loaded and the nicest, kindest and compassionate with nothing. Are we not past all this in 2015? I don't need to have been born with a silver spoon to know how to conduct myself and I don't believe anyone better than someone else because they were. It's about attitude. |

Advertisers used to use a different system
A. Aristocratic (often poor) judges, CEO level and so on.
B. Upper Middle...lawyer, accountancy, lecturer and so on.
C1 Middle Class...older teachers and so on bankers etc
C2 lower middle...young teachers skilled manual workers time served through apprenticeship and so on such as clerical.
D. Working class. Unskilled manual labour but working hard.
E. Unemployed(able)
At various stages of my life I could have ticked every box on the list! |

And his personal preference has what exactly to do with what class one sees oneself in (I'm a commoner by the way).
And no, profile isn't hidden

Seen this somewhere and thought it fitting to add.
We were all humans until race disconnected us, religion seperated us, politics divided us and wealth classified us. |
