Stand feet together. Stand nice and straight. Raise a foot off the ground without bending your knee. You should only be able to manage an inch or so. Do again with other foot. You may hear your pelvis grumble. Repeay a few times and relax. Helps keep your pelvis in alignment.
30quid on a physio is money well spent though. |

Chiropractor or osteopath. I do power-lifting, squats and dead-lifts. Back and knees get stressed all the time because of weight lifted. These guys are magicians for people like me. I think if i right in saying chiropractors are now at every premier league football club in England. I know it is not everybody's cup of tea but I love these guys. 'Crack that back and relieve the pain baby'. Best of luck. |

"Cheers guys,
Bit scared to go to the doctor incase he signs me off,"
I'm a bit the same at the moment, I've been in agony working through it the past month or so but as it's only been my back and as it's a newish job i can't get sick...but now the signs of sciatica are returning and I'm getting worried. All i can say is that if you go to the doctor then don't take tramadol, it does nothing for pain. |

Comes down to what you have done but the old heat and cold never fails.
Heat for better movement and cold for pain relief. I even rub Deep Freeze on my the nerve lines on the back of my neck and head when I get back headaches rather than thump paracetamol around the system.

I've been having problems with my lower back and hips for a few months.
I'm now seeing a physio, and been given exercises. I have to lie face down on the floor, and raise my top half up like a half press up. I do 10 of them every couple of hours.
He also wants me to sit on a hard backed chair at home, but I'm not finding that at all comfortable. There is definite improvement though

Hey, If your Doc is giving you anti-inflammatories such as Naproxen. Remember to ask for the Naproxen that is coated to protect the lining of your stomach. Anti-inflammatories can damage the lining and give very unpleasant side effects such as severe heartburn etc... And you can ask to take with it gastro-resistant tablets such as Pantoprazole to double that protection of your stomach otherwise your back will not be the only problem you have.
Sometimes heat... hot water bottle does ease the pain and you can move better.
Hope you feel better soon x |

When my back goes. I usually try to hang by a tall door lintel so all the body weight is held via the arms. stretches the spine for as long as I can hold. Works for me but physio to is good |

i have always used hot and cold method to relax muscles have a hot shower as hot as you can take it until the sore area is pink then get someone to place a sponge dipped in cold water onto area for a few seconds then back to hot water, repeat several times.
this forces muscles to contract and relax and eases pain, also gives your partner a laugh but really does work |

General advice seems to be try and keep moving, pain killers can help. If its sciatica then you may need to rest up for a few days until the pain eases enough.
Unless it is serious, liked a slipped disc, it should ease off over a few days to a week.
Physio will help and also they can suggest some gentle exercises to help strengthen and prevent future injuries.

Buy a tennis ball and place it where it hurts and roll on it as hard as you can. I'm doing that at the moment and it really works - for me anyhoo. The joys of the solo massage on the road... B x |

There is a guy (older, and not attractive!!) who can "manipulate" the spine to improve back problems. He is really good. I've used him a few times to sort my ailing back out. He works from home in Methven, and also runs a weekly clinic for oil workers in a hotel in Aberdeen on Saturdays. Not cheap (£50 a time) but very well worth it. One treatment is normally enough. |
