Today is the first time I've ever messaged someone to say I'm interested in them & I've been on fab two years. Oh got a lovely reply so ladies do you send the first message? or do you leave it for someone to message you first?

First messages are a nightmare for guys to send.

I never know what to say as I have no idea what kind of personality the recipient has so they come over as really boring.

And after plucking up the courage to send one they invariably get opened and deleted with no response.

First messages are always awkward, or too stage managed and rehearsed, the magic happens when you get the rare one thats a better ice breaker than The Titanic!

It is hard to send the first message espaceshally if you get nothing back. But Hae it's all fun and games.

I think it is a confidence thing With me not being able to send first messages but my confidence has grown from strength to strength

Sent quite a few, majority deleted, some replied and some nasty responses too, so only do it now when I'm feeling on top form.

Sometimes tend to shy away from sending messages if the profile seems a bit " message me and if I don't like you I'll boot ur baws "

It's first impression for me in the first message. But it's hard to know what to say.

Rejection sometimes it just rips it right out of you. Just have to get on with up.

Ive sent a fair few messages and to be honest 99% of them get deleted. Not sure what im doing wrong. Just try to say hi and have a general chit chat. Got a couple of replies tho and getting to know a couple of nice girls.

One occasion I have complemented someone if their profile makes me laugh or stands out . But it's very rare I do it

More women should send first messages if they want, why should it be left to up guys to have to do so...we get just as upset and despondent by rejection too but we're expected to put up with it from you all it seems-also we're not mind readers and different people like different sorts of opening messages.

usually ends up in delete but hey thats fine im not everyone's type (or anyones it seems pmsl)

Hey, it's quite a scary thing to do because you never know how the recipient is gonna take it, ive found myself with a guy on my "hotlist" for ages hoping he'll message me if I keep viewing his profile & eventually will send a wink as it's easier than typing out a mail for it to get ignored. I always find mailing a female is harder than a male

On the rare occasion I see a fittie that catches my eye I'll send them a wee bit of banter. Think I can count the number of times I've sent a first message on one hand and I've been here for years

I've had women be the first to make contact about a couple of times a year at the most in the 3 years I've been on fab & the majority of them were down south & just wanted to compliment my pics or profile. I'd love to get more first contact messages from local ladies.

Mind you, I don't know if I will with my "new look" profile...

I have been on this site for so many year now I've actually lost count.

It does become a tad boring when you put together a very polite opening message and it is deleted unopened.

I don't honestly think in the past 3 years that a woman has opened correspondence with me, reading through this thread I'm starting to understand why.

Guys if I send you an opening message it means I'm interested in a chat. If after said chat I have gauged enough to want to continue I will possibly send a "friends " invite.

However believe in the past 3 years or so majority of said friends have now moved on from the site.

Ladies don't be afraid, if you see a profile that interests then take the leap of faith what do you have to lose

Yes he may be a dickhead and send abuse but block him and move on.

We guys do it every day on here
