E-Cigs: Blurring the smoker/non-smoker lines

So my wife is a smoker and it's never bothered me and I do enough crap myself to not care about the health side (she's worth it).
She's now on the vaporizing devices...which fascinate me.
I know a lot of people say they won't meet smokers but with modern e-cigarettes not smelling bad or causing your house to smell and with there not being any tastes on the lips when having a good snog it's suddenly changing whether someone would meet a smoker or not.
So...if you don't meet smokers what is your reason for it?
And... would you reconsider if the person uses a fruity/minty e-cig?
Curious non-smoker asking.

The only problem i can see with e-cigs is that they are largely unregulated and we have little idea of many of the chemicals added to them, so to its not possible to be sure of their safety.
I also read somewhere about a 2 year old who was poisoned after ingesting some liquid from a refill, so there are a number of safety issues which people to be aware of. |

I think providing you get liquids from a reputable company you are okay. the charger is the most dangerous part.
But aside from the general issues I am more interested in whether people who don't like smokers would accept this.

I (Mr) asked this in the chat room once. General consensus was smokers thought you were classed as a non smoker, non smokers still classed you as a smoker, and therefore wouldn't change there stance on meeting smokers |

Two stories to consider regarding the safety of e-cigs, the first is the 2 year old i mentioned above
http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/health-29110245
the second relates to an investigation by inside out for the bbc
http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-28986117
food for thought. |

it states on the bottles that it is harmful to drink its the parents fault if a kid gets hold of it

Oh well, if it states on the bottle that its harmful then why worry
Parents are at fault, great that will give us some scapegoats if a child dies from ingesting the nicotine or any other poisonous substance thats been mixed into the liquid.
As for the research thats been carried out, i dont know of any independent research that doesnt warn of the dangers of the unknown ingredients or of the number of poisonous or carcinogenic substances found in these liquids.
most of the research has been carried out by the manufacturers in order to give them some marketing material in order to punt their products.

"never trust the BBC
are the NHS a trustworthy source ?
http://www.nhs.uk/news/2013/06june/pages/e-cigarettes-and-vaping.aspx" as has been said further up depends where you buy the liquid also not all contain nicotine the vast majority dont i have 10 btls here none of which contain nicotine not as much research has went into them as cigerretes but health commisions all agree that they are way safer as their is no ingestion of smoke the main worry aroung vaping seems to be its seen as a gateway drug ie will perhaps lead folk towards harder drugs Iie nicotine hash grass studys into e liquids that DO NOT contain nicotine have little or no impact on the user (not sure where I read his but was prompted to look at it from another post) as somwone stated above you wouldnt leave bleach lying around for a child to consume or any other chemical so why not store this also away from children |

Hey everyone.
Whilst I love the attention to health and safety details I was more interested in whether people who go:
"Ew you smell of nicotine, yuck"
are less likely to be annoyed by the new e-cigs and whether a smoker of them is truly a smoker.

Cool. Thanks for the reply.
I think soon smoker-haters will see their limited pool could open up if they accept e-cig smokers.
My issue is I don't know what stops them meeting smokers. For most of the time I presume it's smell and taste rather than anything else. And those are being beaten by tasty non-smelly e-cigs.

No we wouldn't meet.
E cigs are not allowed in public places like cafés etc so still classed as smoking. Also some (not all) e smokers also still have a sneaky ciggie so they are still smoking, until they stop everything. |

As a non smoker who is not keen on the smell or taste it would make it easier to go for a meet if they were on e cigs I got a lift to work for two years off a woman who smoked heavily in her car who recently changed to e cigs and the difference in the car and on my clothes is amazing plus most smokers are very considerate of others |

thank you
I read up this after a discussion with a friend vaping is not smoking as I said the liquids are just an extract of vegetable oil with nicotine and flavours and as someone else said you do get some that don't even have nicotine overall they are pretty much just a modern take on the turkish shishas or hookahs
They are not actually included in the smoking ban it depends on the individual establishment wither you can use them there
and the comparison to bleach is spot on they have a warning on them put them on a shelf |

But if you knew the e-cigs weren't harming the kids..?
I guess for me with kids I wouldn't want to promote vaping in any way as nicotine is still an addiction.

I will meet smokers, as long as they've mouthwash handy or before a meet. But part of my objection is not the smell so much. More that they have to keep disappearing outside to spark up every 30mins!
So perhaps this is also an objection others have and why they won't meet vapers either. |

The main ingredients in e-liquids are are food additive and nicotine. Nicotine is harmful to the skin in pure form which is why the warnings are present.
As for where to source it from. It's like knock off cigarettes. If you buy them cheap chances are they are knock off and have no idea where they are from. I stick with named brand and had no issues with it.
I'd never dream of leaving my charger on all night though. |
