Best start to a film

Just been watching the start to The Italian Job where the Lamborghini Muira is driven by Rossano Brazzi across the Alps to the wonderful music of Quincy Jones and Matt Monro crooning "On Days Like These". Get those shades.

The colour of older films was so much more enticing than the digital, clinical and exact big screen of today. Real movement in the film. (Not a road trip film DLT but woth considering as a side note to you recent post on that topic).

Any other stunning opening scenes?

Not an old film but the openings in both the dark knight & the dark knight rises were great. Not cgi either

A certain gentleman I know, that used to live Down Under says no opening scene in film history can beat the D-Day landings sequence from Saving Private Ryan

Near the start of Lawrence of Arabia - goes on about 5 or 6 minutes of Omar Sharif approaching the oasis out of the desert before a single shot rings out. Fantastic start to a film.

I'm a sucker for Long-takes in movies, The war in the street scene in Children of Men, the start of Gravity, corridor scene in Oldboy, all fantastic.

But to me the best opener of a film is Serenity. One long take re-introducing all the characters and (importantly) the ship, brilliant.

The opening scrolling intro to Starwars Episode IV A New Hope.

Full volume in a darkened room sitting as close to the screen as you can.

I dare any mans heartrate nit to rise.....you know theres gonna be spaceships, fighting, guns.....and Leia
