I have just witnessed something which makes my heart soar. I'm sitting out the front garden having a Guinness and watching the world pass me by. The little guy (he's 11) who lives next door is a bit of a spoiled brat, only child and a cheeky fucker to everyone on the street. His mum came out telling him to get in for something to eat, he tells her to "get fucked"!
I have been transported back to the parenting of my childhood and witnessed a 1970's style "mammy leathering" and it was well deserved. Does anyone else hanker for the days when you could discipline your child without having some do good, bleeding heart view you as a child abuser? My mums weapon of choice when I was a kid was the Skol sandal. For those of you too young to remember what this is it's basically a solid wood soled sandal with a leather strap and she was deadly with it! |

Lol!
I discipline my kids how I see fit and I don't care what others think. They tried to do the typical thing of trying to be cheeky in front of their friends, they soon realised that a smack on the hand or a time out will be given any time.

I used to get whacked in the arse with my grannys dead poodles dog collar, i can still remember it a wee red leather fucker with studs on it, stung like fuck, i can remember getting leathered with it for giving two of her best tea towels to the ragman in exchange for a water pistol and two balloons shaped like giant cocks lol |

A leathering certainly never did me or mrs any harm. If our kids need to be chastised, they are. If that happens to require a snack on the hand or bum, so be it. |

I don't have kids but if I do I wouldn't see discipline as a bad thing and do it if they stepped out of line! My sister on te other hand.. She's got 3 girls and none of them have been disciplined! They run rings round her!! |

Ahhhh but quarter father dearest I also remember you being quite handly with the slipper  Never used it anywhere near often enough on my erstwhile sibling Boywonder though. He's turned into such a disgraceful man whore! |

Being the eldest of 3 boys we all got the odd skelp, one or two proper beltings (which were earned!) And hurt my dads feelings more than my arse I reckon.
The unwritten re seemed to be never hit the face. Even when we fought each other we never once punched each other in the fizzog. Ozmosis probably?

My mum had one of those sandals too 
She also had a slipper with a fluffy thing on it but that broke one night after I'd been particularly bad and run halfway up the stairs by the time it connected with my backside 
My kids get a smack on the ass or hand if they really step out of line and I don't think it's done them any harm. None of their friends say please or thank you for a start.
But my personal weapon of choice, is making them them stand in front of me, hand out in front of them while I tell them off - half the time I don't even smack it, but it's the thought that I might that scares the bejesus out of them and is enough for them to remember their manners!!  |
