I'm so sad. I loved his work ...Mrs Doubtfire was our rainy day, feel good movie as a family. Comic genius so very often masks such inner turmoil. I wish him peaceful rest..... |

"Just seen this on Facebook, only 63 as well ment to be suicide wonder what was up"
The man had battled drug and alcohol addiction all his life. He had gone out to get more cocaine the night his great friend John Belushi died of a drugs overdose in his hotel room. By all accounts he had recently relapsed and was being treated for alcoholism and depression. Looks like it all got too much for him! |

He was bi polar and very open about his self medicating with drugs and alcohol to treat his illness as many bi polar sufferers do. Sadly as many bi polar sufferers do he decided to end it all, whether it was a cry for help or he meant to really end it all, it's a tradegy as he was a comic genius. |

A man with many demons unfortunately. Like so many others with depression, it's a daily battle and he must have decided he'd had enough.
Very sad as he leaves his family behind.
May he find peace at last |

I lost a little piece of my childhood today, Hook, Mrs Doubtfire, Jumanji... As someone said, be kind as you never know what battles people are fighting, heartbreaking to think he couldn't fight anymore. RIP x |

Sad to hear this, a comic genius. Had he not develped Parkinsons?
He was a very good friend of Billy Connolly, had attended the Lonach Gathering in Strathdon a couple of times when the Big Yin was in residence up there.

R i p." im sure he did have parkinsons and having had a family member with it i know how debilitating it is for the individual and how distressing it is for the family to watch them go through it |

Such a sad day . Depression is a horrible thing and so many mask it by being the joker and smiling . It's easier to wear a mask than ask for help at times . Genuinely saddened by the loss of such a funny talented and legend of a man . I know he made me laugh no ends with many of his pictures . Heartbreaking he couldn't be at peace in life and it came to a point he chose to end his suffering rather than battle on . No one truly knows the depths of pain one suffers, so whilst today we are all saddened .if you know someone suffering from from similar ,please, take the time to let them know they need not be alone in their battle . You just never know how much they may need to know you care .
Deepest sympathy to his friends and family RIP Robin Williams |

I fought that bastard depression for years and didn't even know it till "an incident" happened and I lost 3 days.....now I have it licked I can feel and sometimes see it in people I meet or know and do what I can to help. If it's just bblatently bringing it up (to my close friends) or just dishing out a bit of a spanking, verbal or otherwise. They call it the silent killer for a reason.
BT once used the tagline...It's good to talk |

Years ago he did a film in Scotland called 'being human'. Some friends of mine were in it. They said he was a total gentleman. He even organised a plane to take them over to L.A. For the premiere. R.I.P. |

I lost my best friend to depression last year and my heart is still broken. Those that are left behind feel so impotent and also guilty that they couldn't have done more. I hope he is at peace. |

He not only had depression he also struggled throughout with ADHD and other OCD and cpl of other mild mental disorders ....he spent a lot of life not understanding why he struggled with certain aspects of his life.....he was mentally very very clever......these disorders are only really recently more fully understood. |
