I know its a bit late but i fish to and use a product from avon called skin so soft and no longer get bothered  |

Yes ive used it before. I had repellent in my bag just didnt pit it on. We learn from our mistakes. Lol |

its a magic Chinese potion that cures many ailments...(looks and smells a bit like vicks). from headaches to bites... we first discovered it when we lived in hong kong. its available online |

calamine ans zinc lotion.
When I get bad midge bites (I'm allergic but the wee buggers seem to think I'm yummier than a banquet dinner) I paint the top of the bite with clear nail varnish, and that helps.  |

Be careful they don't turn into an infection if you keep scratching them as it is really unpleasant and painful.
Not sure if you know as you are a fisherman, but Avons skin so soft lotion with the green label seems to keep the insects away, and it smells nice |

My recent bites have turned out to be from clegs. Nasty vile little boogers and almost a week on they are still painful. Lavender and tea tree oil is helping. I have invested in Avon's sss and a flame thrower for future picnics!!!!  |

A young lady at the weekends camping soirée kindly gave me some Skin So Soft.....it's better than any conventional insect repellant I've ever used |
