Mr bear hugs looking forward to
Opening ceremony and the games. He ran for Wales in 2 previous commonwealth games so has an invested interest. I will smile, cheer and watch it all with him, but secretly can't wait til we get Paradise back in one piece. K x |

So, John Barrowman, twirling tunnocks teacakes, random chairs, Susan Boyle fucking up the first few lines of Mull of Kintyre, Karen Dunbar dressed up as Oor Wullie...Definitely 'uniquely' Scottish!
Still good fun though |

Absolutely tremendous effort by all involved! As silly as it was at points, it was definitely Scottish all over!
Wonder if this will sway more people to vote yes in September? Hmmm... |

Wasn't a fan of the start
Karen Dunbar wasn't the best and john ( I can just about remember my scots accent from yrs ago) was a tad cheesy
Then wee Susan forgetting the line of the song
Once that finished it was really good

Any change to Celtic Park is an improvement but to see Britishness in its full glory there was good enough for me. Her Majesty, the singing of the real National Anthem, military bands, every that is good about our great country was there and everything that Celtic are not. Made me proud to be British.
Overall it was cringey to begin with and tried to mirror London with the industrial theme to begin with, though it did get better, but my main gripe is the English singer headlining it should have been Subo and not someone who took on Scotland for his own gain.

I'm glad we took the opportunity to show the world tha. t there is more to us than tartan, Scottie dogs and the loch Ness monster!!!!
Karen Dunbar, Subo, and Rod Stewart were all terrible. Also did anyone else think the bit when they were carrying the baton across the stage looked like a bunch of people trying to steal it off each other!
That said the kiss, the ballet, Amy McDonald in George Sq and Nicola Benedetti were all amazing and the fireworks display at the end was really impressive. |

" here was me thinking it's a post about the opening of the games what's Celtic got to do with it other that because it's the best stadium in Scotland so that's why it was held there?
British?made me proud to be Scottish!! |

Rod and subo were awful
They should have had on younger stars and yes Scottish to
The theme was about kids being no 1. Why have such old singers on.
Thought it was excellent though. Red white and blue above parkhead |

OK, yes it was a bit cheesy in parts.
Yes, some of the signing could have been better.
Yes, there were a lot of stereotypes in the opening routine.
But ye know what?
It worked!
SO proud to be a Gladwegian today! |

Some of the comments with rather triumphalistic and sectarian undertones on this thread make me realise that some of my fellow countrymen are stuck in the 17th Century. Been a long time since Britain was "Great" at anything. Sectarian bitterness....bloody scourge of this country! |

A cringing embarassment, enough to make us all sorry to be associated with it, and it took them 7 years to come up with the show that delivered nothing but caricature of all that is good about our city. |

Well we thought itwas a bloody damn good, tongue in cheek opening ceremony, , but having read this posting , there are clearly still some sad, sectarian people in our community, who cant see past there in bred colouring, get over it and support scotland in this and not o dear its in the east instead o the west, |

Bit late commenting I know...but didn't see the whole thing till last night. Having heard reports I wasn't sure what to expect.
I thought it was quirky, humorous and kind of down to earth...bit like the host city really. Some things I loved...the tunnocks tea cakes, chairs (loved that concept...pull up a chair!), and of course ra wee dugs. Maybe not as glamorous and glitzy as some would have liked but it did Glasgow proud and made me smile. Here's tae us, wha's like us.... |
