We all chat online, through texts and messengers like whatsapp and kik etc and of course it can be convenient at times.
I feel like theres not enough actual talking face to face with people in everyday life lol i can go all day without chatting to other adults which is pretty sad really.
When was the last time you actually spoke to someone? On the phone or face to face?

I suppose texting/online messaging is the modern thing to do now.
I do like a good one on one/phone call myself though. My thumbs hurt after a while when I'm texting haha |

Depends what your daily routine is.
Work from home or travel to work, may mean you use a phone to converse. People confide in work mates, they are outside the family, when it comes to impartiality.
Some jobs require silence, although others need chatter. Scots accent is pleasing to the ears, the trick is to comprehend what is said, while their body language tells another story.

I've got shares in BT lol and think the only time I don't talk is when I'm sleeping . Well not that I've been told yet anyway
I enjoy all ways of coversing but agree with OP that modern technology is definitely causing people to chat less face to face. Its the same as writing a letter I suppose.

I'm crap at chatup lines but if you have a fairly broad and simple sense of humour I can carry a convo for a while.
I'm quite knowledgable about most things and well travelled so I could keep it "adult" but my inner manchild will try to escape as soon as anyone mentions house prices or pensions! |

Was on the phone today to book something and it was quite nice actually haha trust me to get the convo onto random stuff other than what i was actually phoning for tho!

Ive noticed its quite common for folk to use their phone to answer/send messages when speaking to another person face to face. almost seems a bit rude really... though that could just be my crap banter and people trying to distract themselves... |

This bugs the hell outta me!! I find it incredibly rude. Chatting to someone and theyre not even looking at you, whats that about? Grr. Ive had it happen and i just stop talking and they have the cheek to ask why lol

I actually find it easier talking face to face. You can gauge people's reactions better. And I'm usually more relaxed face to face.

Most of our communication skills are actually visual and connected to body language. Not to mention pitch and tone. That's why 'chatting' like this is so fraught. It is very easy to be unintentionally rude, to pick up a wrong signal etc. I like to talk fairly soon, but I'd rather do it over coffee than a phone as all the visual signals are missing otherwise. |

Very true. You can get alot more from chatting with someone face to face and it cant be replaced. A little look as you take a sip of your drink, a cheeky wee smile etc. There are very few people i actually enjoy talking to. One of my friends has a way of just being open to all sort of discussions and we end up talking for ages as the convo flows onto different subjects, so much that whenever he visits mines he has to make sure hes nothing else planned as he knows hes not going anywhere for a while haha the fact that hes just a 'vanilla' friend and the subjects are never sinister makes it even more interesting for me
