Sarcasm is a skill. I use it regularly
Not many appreciate my relentless use of it tho, some are just baffled half the time as they dont understand. But that makes it even more fun!

It's not for no reason that there is the saying, "Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit". It's abused and misused and is lowest common denominator humour.
Personally, I 'cking detest sarcasm and if someone's profile includes them saying how their sense of humour is sarcastic, it's an instant "Nope!" from me. they'd be lucky if I didn't block them too.
The thing that gets me is the number people seem to be so very proud of their sarcastic tendencies, like it's a badge of honour. It's not, it just makes you look like a bit of a dick, and not a very nice bit at that. |

Y'know, for a second there I was almost going to resist making a very obvious jibe about those who rely almost exclusively on sarcasm being rather tool-esque themselves.
Almost.
Nah, lets be honest. There's nothing to "get" about sarcasm. By its very nature it's the most crude, unrefined and obvious tool in the comedy armamentarium. Saying that people don't get sarcasm is like saying that they don't get being whacked in the face with a 2 by 4. You don't need to get it. It just happens. It's about as easy to ignore as the plank and just as blunt. |

The 'get' about sarcasm is not the humour but rather the understanding of it. In my oppinion sarcasm is not a comiedic tool but rather a mind exercise. I wont denigh that people use it as such but the true humour in sarcasm is unintended it is the comment being taken litterally by the recipient. |

My friend works at the Royal Infirmary and she says one of the cancer specialists is an american doctor and he said the amount of times he has to tell someone they have cancer and their reply is something like 'oh well, as long as its nothing serious' is incredible and he can't understand it.
Sarcasm is a very british way of dealing with emotions, good, bad or indifferent. It doesn't always have elicit a big belly laugh either as its not just to make people laugh.
I'm a big fan but not if its at the expense of others who can't or won't be able to defend themselves. |

It's Bo's weapon of choice. I like it but it really does take energy n brains to do it right without causing offence.
Teaching me to drive years ago and he said "Felling a bit continental today dear" as I was driving us down a country road at about 12 miles an hour.
Turns out I was driving on the wrong side if the road.
Does make me laugh though. |

You shouldb't be here if you're bi , you shouldn't be here if you're a married man, and now you shouldn''t be here if you're sarcastic.
This place would be pretty empty if all the "you shouldn't" people got their way.
I'll find funny, and laugh at what I like, and make the jokes I find funny. |

Given that you can travel through the years, perhaps you can still make Santiago in 2009?
PS - Looking forward to some more random punctuation in your reply!

Now, do you want me to travel back a Century - or to Victorian times? Given that Victoria passed in 1901 - as did her era, I can't do both.
I'm sure you're making this easy for me on purpose. |

Undoubtedly one of the easiest ways to gauge someone's intelligence.
As a hard and fast rule, if people don't like sarcasm and don't use it then we will not get on with them.
No loss whatsoever.
The ones that don't get sarcasm are invariably thick as mince.
The ones that state it's the lowest form of wit? See the above sentence. |
