If you're looking for stuff to do, track down a copy of The List. It used to be available in Euston and Kings Cross stations. It's a bit like Time Out.
For restaurant/ pub advice, there's threads on Fab already. No doubt a specific request (jazz, art galleries, poetry readings or whatever) will bring suggestions.
Enjoy. It's a great city.

One specific suggestion would be the Burrell Collection. Soon to close for building renovation it's one man's collection of art and furniture and .......
While the building is shut, bits of the collection are to be 'loaned' overseas. We may never see it as it is now again. |

Thanks for that tip.
I saw the restaurant thread and I will peruse the rest of the Scottish forum before heading your way.

Some suggestions, including the underground, from the local evening paper.

If you're using the underground, go on the website first and get the smart card. It's free to register and will save you a fortune. All tickets cost a lot more without one. You should still have time to sort one out. |

It's not a bad city, not as busy as London or as dirty either. Nowhere is that far away and the public transport is nearly as good as Central London so I hope you enjoy your time up here
I made the move permanent and would never live back down in London again |

How do I know they haven't trapped him there? He might be being forced to say good things to lure us Londoners up there so that you can suck us dry and leave us as grey husks at the border. |

I'm geographically challenged and won't have the car. Tell me where to be and how to get there and I will be game. Do we also hunt men in pairs for our amusement?

That one might need to be deconstructed a little.

many glaswegians walk around only seeing whats at eye level, look up and you will find some fantastic architecture.

You are kidding I assume ? Nicer to look at and that's it. Stayed in Glasgow 9 months and Edinburgh 6 months and Glasgow was far far better, pubs and clubs opened later. You could get a kebab after a night out and a taxi unlike auld reekie. Merchant city ace. George St etc pretentious and unfriendly. Meh ba humbug |

Not necessarily nicer - just different. Georgian and older rather than mostly Victorian. And it has a castle - but shops only on one side of the street. |

Each to their own and full respect to that but I for one won't hurry back to Edinburgh instead but definitely rush back to Glasgow any day |

My issues with Edinburgh are many but the nightlife is right up there at the top.
Also a lot less friendly than Glasgow. |

Thanks for all the tips. I've had a wander around, looking up, and I have got my bearings. I haven't been on the little tube yet but I have had a meal at Rogano's. Things look walkable.

I would have said the cail bruich in great western road if it wasn't Monday. Butcher shop is alright but they've changed chef recently and might be hit or miss. Try one Devonshire gardens, la vallee blanche or la parmigiana in the west end all multi rosette restaurants as opposed to the usual glasgow steakhouses |

Thanks. I'm going to the Concert Hall and if it doesn't finish too late then a big meal as opposed to a snack will be in order. Waking makes you hungry. |

Whoops! Walking, of course.
I'm safely on my way home. I had a good time and even though I am allergic to ginger I have my "ginger" for the train.
