mind control !!

Inspired by a post on another thread.

First of all this isnt a conspiracy theorist thread with some sort of cartoon villain in mind.

Most if not all of us are aware of the subliminal messaging which takes place in daily life (for example ads which try to imply if you use a certain deodorant you will be irresistible to the opposite sex)

but are we completely aware of how it affects our decision making and how we view the world ?

im very good at seeing the control factors that people and companys use unfortunatly alot of folk dont and think that they are making decisions themselves when the truth is they are steered to those places. take a step back and look at big pictures my advice

cant argue with that advice kola, sometimes its very subtle and people dont see it until after they have taken a course of action.

Whether that is buying a product or into an ideal.

Sound advice Kola but not always simple to impliment when people are bombarded with these sujestions continuously. The only way to eradicate the messages the media are drip feeding into our minds is to shut ourselfs off from external stimuli. No T.V. No Net. No Radio. No Cinema. No Adverts of any kind to be allowed. Wont happen but it sounds nice.

would say once you see it for what it is it dosnt work its the seeing the control mechanism that frees your mind once you see what they are doing you regain the power over it and dont fall for the nonsense anymore

Agreed mr hook (are you a captain by any chance )

One of the things i have noticed from tv and cinema is the number of characters with an obvious machiavellian nature.

prompting a chicken and egg type question, does this influence real life or is real life influencing the writers

which makes sense, what happens though when an idea which has been put out there for someones personal gain and/or agenda becomes conventional wisdom.

most of us these days dont do our own thinking instead we wait for an expert to tell us what to do or think.

yup how many times do you hear recent polls say, my friend says, but they act in this manner, step back see the big picture see things as they are and never buy the bs

What lie?

I dint buy the drink thinking snakes would be serving it to me at the bar...or that I would be sitting in the quietest dullest club on earth...

I bought it because it was new, I saw the advert and thought...Il try that...

Then I went out to party, poured my own drinks and a ball....

i wouldnt dare question what makes you choose to buy or not foe, your too scary for that

No intention to suggest that all decisions are made under undue influence, i am more interested in the behaviour of those who seek to influence others and how successful they are at doing so.

the methods they use etc, and not just advertisers but also politicians and pressure groups/lobbyists, celebrities, the media (print and broadcast) as well as individuals in the mundane minutae of daily life.

And the potential for any influence to be either positive or negative depending on the scenario and the individuals perspective.

phhew stops to catch breath

Kebab , pizzerias, chippy, Chinese restaurants all put pictures up in the windows or in menus to look at . Bakers display cakes do they always taste as good as the look and same shape size as pictures allow us to believe .. Isn't that advertising and luring you in to believe they are all deliciously tasty ? Facts are they aren't always but its now life is. We follow fashions , when someone tells us we look good we believe it if we feel it and so forth. If a holiday destination looks wonderful we are tempted to try it out . Where do you draw the line. Everything in life is lead by temptation be it word of mouth or advertising . And Mmm vodka gold sounds lush

the power of advertising, suggestion, etc is huge, blind taste tests pepsi trounces , yet people buy more in an equal marketplace. simply has better market dynamics/ life image.
