Yep it is disgusting how totally idiotic a nation can be. Very sad to see in todays day and age. A person can't express their preference without being treated like something you stepped in. Very sad. |

Still enough Nazism around to get people kicked out of the Tory party.
Conservative MP Aidan Burley, who was at the centre of a row over a Nazi-themed stag party, is to step down from Parliament next year.

There are a lot of people in all walks of life who have their own individual views and opinions. Case in point - Hilter, Stalin, both changed the views on thousands and now millions. The Political parties however you perceive them do have opinions not always popular but opinions non the less. |

"Yet here, in our very own parliament at Holyrood, we still have the likes of John Mason, SNP MSP voting against same sex marriage."
do you plan to name the other 17 msp's who voted against this bill ?
i have noticed you go after john mason before is this something personal against him ?
or does it not suit your agenda for it be known that there were labour and conservative msp's who voted no as well ? |

"8 Tories and 7 Tartan Tories.
That about right?"
Dont forget the 3 labour members _nny
you still cant grasp the concept of comment and/or criticism of ALL who are accountable for the same actions.
instead of that you choose to be selective, as in your original post naming 1 out of 17 msp's who voted no (until your conduct was challenged)

and once again you show the same propensity for bias instead of balanced information, not to mention disrespect for someone because they have religious convictions.
Poor attitude. |

Jesus all i wanted was peoples opinions on the program and whats happening in Russia.
Onny im sorry but i just dont understand why you have to turn every forum post you join in on into something political.
I for one have very little political knowlage and feel very intimidated when someone changes your post into something you know very little about |

I think perhaps you have lost the theme of this thread. It is quite apparent that the documentary quite rightly as indicated was about the persecution of Gay and Lesbian people in Russia. The documentary clearly showed authorities in the country showing little regard for the rights of this group of people. I can't see where you have made the connection of Political intentions towards above mentioned group. It seems that you do indeed have a particular interest in Political matters as is evident in your postings. If this is your area of refinement then perhaps you ought to consider giving input geared towards that in applicable arenas.
I for one have my own thoughts and opinions within the Political and Economical bastion of MSPs and indeed Westminster, but feel that any direction towards that is somewhat futile in a thread asking for thoughts and opinions regarding the poor people who have ashamedly been sought out and ousted as their sexual persuasion. Possibly you got confused regarding the original posting of which the question was asked. Making your connection strongly and firmly in the Political arena within Scotland which has no bearing on what is happening in Russia. Consideration of Political motivations by either parliament member is one that will no doubt be discussed elsewhere and should imagine in great depth and detail, not I would suggest within this thread of which there is no bearing.
Miss D, I apologise to you for making the above comment and indeed commend you on your thoughts regarding last night's disturbing programme. |

Could I suggest that Onny creates individual threads for his observations, so that people can discuss them separately if the wish, rather than him jumping in and hijacking other peoples threads? I know N and I don't post much on here but we have noticed that Onny likes to politicise conversations, and demonise the SNP, whenever he the opportunity arises. Doesn't do his cause any good because people actually get fed up of it. |

I haven't seen the program but it sounds to me like it did a pretty good job of exposing the draconian views of some.
I don't think there is any need to turn against human beings for their sexual orientation - especially in the 21st century. |

Could I suggest that NOBODY creates political threads, football threads, or frequent threads having a go at single or bi/gay males? They just end up in arguments, and in the case of the S/B/G male threads, are very tedious.
The only things more tedious are all the hypocritical "timewaster" threads. |

I always fancied a visit to Russia but after watching the program it is off my places to visit.
The Russians have a different view of things and what worries me is the west esp the UK reducing the armed forces to save money just like before the Falklands kicked off.
Putin is behind many of the draconian laws and he is the one that is using the new found wealth from oil and gas to re- arm his country !!!! |

Don't tar the whole of Russia with that brush.
Sorry, to say, Miss D, this is a politically motivated state attitude. Putin is using gays the way Hitler did the Jews (and gays, gypsies and the disabled. All Putin's, too, you may note) to give his people an internal enemy to hate. It takes the focus of him and his cronies. Here it's the poor, the unemployed and immigrants.
Of course, you need to know what your population's prejudices are before you can stir them up. |

There are plenty of ordinary Russians who are just as angry about this as we are. It suits our media to simplify the story to a straight 'they're bad, we're liberal' agenda. |

I have to agree with targaid , hope i spelt that correctly , not all russians hold the same view , russia is a vast country a sort of amalgamation of a lot of cultures and ideas that under communism were sometimes ruthlessly oppressed . The thing that got me was that a lot of the main instigators were young men and the occasional woman ,who never lived under the previous regime and therefore have no concept of living in anything other than a state which gives them the freedom and indeed sanctions their actions . As for the neo-nazis and other extreme right wing groups that were shown i find it ironic that one of the main goals of nazism was to exterminate sub groups such as the russians , now it seems as though putin is quite happy to pass very vague laws to suit his own agenda . The main concern other than the obvious brutality and ignorance displayed was that these people genuinely believed they were right and were happy to link homosexuality to paedophelia . It seems to be sanctioned from the state at the highest levels and from the church , there was a part when an orthodox priest said not even camel display this type of behavior , surely its our ability to adapt to change and to accept amongst many other things that separate us from the cattle ? I couldnt help but chuckle to myself as it seemed to me he was implying that anyone willingly engaging in this were nothing more than state cattle being herded around to clear out the evil disease of homosexuality (their opinion not mine !) surely a little bit of context and education would help the situation , homosexuality has been there since dot and was accepted as a part of life by most of what we now term the great civilizations , we look back and think of ourselves as better but who really are the savages ?? All dictators point to the enemy within when things arent going as well as they hoped , putin is no different , i just hope that the silent majority within russia dont allow themselves to be seen by the wider international community as backwards and a relic of times best forgotten . i have the utmost respect and sympathy for those that have came out , but even having to say that phrase "come out" to me in itself implies there is something wrong with their sexuality . personally i take rentons point of view from trainspotting , "1,000 years from now there will be no guys and no girls, just wankers. Sounds great to me. " |
