Smoking in a Car with Children is Now Illegal
Jump to: Newest in thread
Well, in Oregon anyway.
Beginning Wednesday, January 1st, it will be against the law to smoke in a car with children present in the state of Oregon. As it should be. It's borderline child abuse.
The smoker faces a fine of $250 for a first offense and $500 for subsequent ones.
should we make it illegal to smoke in cars with children or other non smoking passengers in the uk or should we all just get cancer and die a horrible death? and blame the romanians for coming here and stealing our jobs and women lol |

Yep deffo should be made illegal with minors in the car.
Were both smokers but never smoke inside, and most certainly never smoke near minors. Our choice to smoke, shouldnt force them to inhale it too. |

It should be illegal in a car full stop.. If you can be done for eating a sandwich, then surely you should be done for having a burning object in front of your face in charge of a lethal weapon?

I work hard all day and sometimes it's my choice to have a cig in the car, it's the only time I have, I don't have anyone else in the car so it's not causing harm to anyone, have seen people sway cars due to looking at there sat nav more than any problem I could cause smoking, it's my choice and should always be my choice x |

Both my parents smoked when I was growing up as did my grandparents and I hated going on long journeys when they were all smoking. I got bad travel sickness then and found it made it worse when they were smoking. So with all recent information and knowledge on cigarettes I think in a vehicle with minors yes it should be illegal. Its a persons right to smoke of course but I wouldn't like to be a passenger in a vehicle where someone was smoking in such a confined area. Just my opinion |

I agree with you Shelley , as a smoker I never smoke with passengers in the car, and I wouldn't sit in a car with people smoking. I do smoke in my own car when there are no passengers, window open bottle of fabreze and a packet of mints lol xxxx |

"Ban smoking all together then we will eradicate cancer all together "
We would eradicate some cancers......and the country would go bankrupt with the loss of tax revenue.
I think most smokers now wouldn't force it on others and certainly wouldn't smoke in a car with kids in it |

And who should police this legislation?
The police themselves, thus taking more time away from actually tackling crimes?
Traffic wardens? Lollipop men/women ?
Roadside big issue vendors? |

"Why do we need to rely on legislation before behaving with consideration for others ?
"
Why, because many (note I did not say all) smokers are inconsiderate.

fantastic idea, SOME smokers are inconsiderate so lets legislate to control their behaviour. Where next !!
Why not just pass laws for all parts of daily life where SOME people dong know how to conduct themselves with consideration for others.
sounds to me like simply another step down the road of the nanny state. If there are people who are incapable of making a sensible decision themselves then lets do it for them.
heres a few words that spring to mind
totalitarian
fascist
controling
If you allow the first step to be taken it doesnt take long to build up some momentum, before you know it everyone is asking how did we let this happen.
the clues are all there in the history books. Problem is most people suffer from collective amnesia. |

You just want to stand there in a suit, one hand on hip, flash the badge with the other hand and say (in your best ace ventura voice) 'Smokin!' |

I wasn't suggesting any more legislation to be honest as I think the majority of smokers are sensible and considerate towards others.
But if you are worried about legislation for stupid things taking us down a slippery road.......I think we are already on that road and quite a way along it already!! |

thats kinda the point big chap.
only the majority are too docile to notice and or challenge the route we are being led along.
you only need to go back to the blair and bush governments and the whole w.m.d. saga to see how easily people will accept whats put in front of them. |

Only a complete retard smokes in a car with a young kid inside, no one will convince me otherwise. Insane that anyone would defend such scummy behaviour |

We both smoke but never smoke in the house or in view of our two girls.
With all the information out there, it would take some selfish, ignorant retard to smoke in a car with kids in. That's not just our opinion. That's a FACT! |

but its ok for everyone to use mobile phones and give everyone cancer that way ? Or do we ban cars because of there pollution? Although I totally agree kids should not be exposed to smoke fumes , I HATE non smokers getting on ur high horse to take an easy swipe at smokers. Im more worried about the amount of bareback lovers on here . That will kill u long before and ciggies lol |

Who said I was a non smoker attempting to have a swipe at smokers? Lol all I was stating was a belief that smokers shouldn't force kids to inhale their second hand smoke in the confines of a car,I agree with you about phone's and cars and pollution which is why I choose not to have a car and I rarely use my phone and I make a conscious effort to reduce my carbon footprint aswell as to be considerate of others which is more than I can say for most, technically smoking kills more people a year than bareback sex lovers although I don't condone unprotected sex "Well, in Oregon anyway.

I should also state that I'm somewhat biased with this post as most of you smokers might have already assumed and that's simply because I lost a young teenager friend many years ago to cancer due to smoking and what a horrible way to go the details of which I witnessed I'll Keep to myself and they will stay with me my whole life |
