Isn't it just fckn fantastic. UK opens its borders "again" and the politicians say everything will be fine and within 8 hours of arriving here 2 Romanians get arrested in London for pick pocketing, and they wonder why so many people are against too much immigration

It's a complete joke I also read in the papers that they have special offices set up in these countries who help and give advice to people on how to enter the UK and what benefits to claim

Unfortunately this country seems to thrive on helping others - even when there are pensioners freezing to death because they can't afford food AND heating.

And I always thought that charity began at home

The UK needs immigration it has done for many years.

Dont let the minority of trouble makers spoil it for the many. You get them in all walks of life.

Celtic fans in Amsterdam, Rangers fans in Manchester. London riots. The soldier that was beheaded in London.

The list is endless.

It don't work that way. If we want our low level crims to be able to escape to Spain, there has to be some give and take.

And there's the problem - the EU. I don't see the Aussies or kiwis constantly getting it in the neck over their immigration policies. Or the Canadians. But I'm afraid we are stuck with EU laws that we must stick to which means any person from an EU member state can go anywhere within the EU.

Therefore, we have to take the good with the bad

I agree with you. I had loads of polish guys working for me in London as well as some Ghanaians. They were great guys and extremely hard workers. 95% of the work was hard graft and manual labour and there were no British guys willing to do it. The pay was good but it was hard graft and the few British guys that started, usually didn't even make it to the end of the day unfortunately.

There's a big internal backlash in Australia over the number of Irish immigrants who've arrived in the last few years.

When the system was set up it was ... No Pay In = No Pay Out. Sadly our legal system through rich lawyers and rich judges and rich politicians (well they are not actually rich through politics, just from their scams) have ensured it is not open to abuse.

Sadly we only get the politicians we deserve as the newspapers think that anyone trying to change things is either a racist, fascist or communist.

Maybe we should start a FAB party to change the laws in our favour.

Glasgow (for now)

Just before Christmas a 'woman' was begging outside my office in Glasgow. She had a 3 year old kid with her.

I offered to call social services to have the kid taken taken in to care and help sought for her situation.

Her response was to call me a "fucking racist" and I should "fuck off home" in eastern accented English.

Funny, I thought I was in my own country?

When I threatened to call the police she ran to a parked car and left asap. Funny thing was the back of the car had an RO sticker on it.

Our fellow Scots have been going to London to pick pocket for years. Maybe there should have been border controls for them too.

My partner is from Poland and when she first came to the UK there were no benefits available and she did not want then anyway if they were. She found no problem getting jobs in places like bottling factories, food factories and care homes not because she was stealing jobs from UK residents but because no UK residents wanted those jobs.

When Sky today went to find the floods of Romanians the Daily Mail predicted would flood into the UK, they found one guy arriving at the airport!

When we complain about other nationalities coming to the UK, we forget that the British are some of the biggest immigrant populations in other countries around the world. There are something like two million alone in Spain, a country if any that should be complaining about the criminal elements we export to them!

Some of these people will burst their arse for minimum wage because its a helluva lot more than what they get in their own country. Some of the people on benefits wont work for minimum wage.

I don't buy all this propaganda about immigrants being the root of all evil. They provide this country with the labour the country needs when nobody here is prepared to get off their backside for £6.31 an hour. Immigrants are good for this country.

And how many muggings took place in London yesterday? Probably hundreds, but as usual, certain newspapers decide to make these two an example.

Because, by the time the sods turned up she'd have legged it anyway.

It pisses me off grand style that these, and I include any UK born, aggressive beggars out with their kids do not attract a social services response.

Having, and having had, issues with the SS personally over minor problems, it burns me to see this sort of behaviour.

I have no issues with folk coming here to work, I do have issues of them coming here to sponge. We have enough ne'r do wells of our own making.

I have people from 12 different countries working alongside me. You should hear what the Spanish really think about 'beggars'.

There is always two sides to every story with all of these threads and comments about immigration.

I am no expert on Immigration but I did travel and work in several countries for close to 20 years and had my fair share of experiences with immigration directly.

I had abuse from local people years ago saying they couldn't get a job because of people like myself even though I could after travelling half way around the world.

I had bosses and friends who would pull me aside and say they would rather employ people like myself because we worked harder than the lazy locals.

Where I was living I even had the local RCMP welcome me back with a handshake and smile and say they would rather have me living and working there than half the locals who were a constant pain in the backside.

In this country I had very good friends from Yugoslavia but after many years disowned them because the mother was sucking every benefit she could get out of this govt and still moaned all the time they were not doing enough for her and would always say how good she had it here instead of going home and not once did she go look for work.

Just a few examples above and the Australian,New Zealand and Canada's immigration policies are not the best at times and can be very inhumane.

I honestly feel everyones getting their knickers in a twist over it all and should just chill out.

Welcome and treat all newcomers with the respect they deserve and if any immigrants break the law or abuse this countries system then I would hope they would be dealt with fairly just like the local people that reside here would be.

And no I never tried to claim benefits anywhere!!!

and if we compare these figure's against brits getting banged up abroad for a variety of rather more serious crime's we would definitely have viable ground's for a critical and stereotypical post that anyone might be mistaken for thinking define's all british people...but the fact is that we shouldnt let the actions of the minority paint a negative picture of the majority....i happen to have seen one fella whom i suspected to be romanian outside a club on george street on tuesday night selling rose's and what appeared to be cheap cowboy hat's as you do but what i also noticed was there was what looked to be a purse on the ground and before i had a chance to add it to my collection he was right in there like jack flash lol then again he's no better or worse than the majority of us who are just trying to scratch a living one way or another and before we point the finger at other's we should have a long hard look at ourselve's...its easy to look for a scapegoat in an outsider and all the more easy to turn a blind eye to the transgressions of our fellow countrymen who are commiting all manners of crime and fraud not to make end's meet but to sustain a drug/drink fuelled lifestyle that's paid for by the hard working tax payer like myself....blah blah blah....;) also i dont believe that "so many people" are against immigration...considering the fact that the fact that a large majority of people here are either first, second or 3rd or 4th etc generation immigrants....im an immigrant, albeit not a romanian but id very much like to emigrate to romania and buy a castle in transylvania so they're all more than welcome to come here so that the demand for castle's there will drop and so will the value of them so i can pick me up a cheap castle....i work hard and have never claimed benifits despite being homeless and jobless after finishing my tertiary studie's...yet a rather large number of scots ive known have been rather inclined to accept a free hand out from the government rather than working for a living which is alright for them i guess but it sure aint alright for me...im far to ambitous and possesed to hang about the house watching jeremy kyle and eating bean's on toast or something lol

never mind them knicking our job's and women...we should be fearful of them building haunted castle's everywhere and infesting the place with bat's and hunchback servant's by the name of "egor"....quick everyone lets melt your silver jewellery (before they nick them) to make silver bullet's and get your mop and broom handle's sharpened to make stake's....and we need some holy water from the local church that none of us has been to in years..off to greengrocer's we go to stock up on garlic!.anyone got any spare pitchfork's? lets arrange to meet and form a mob to burn them at the stake before young virgins start disappearing and they drink all our blood! lol

Could we please dispel this myth that the British are a mongrel race and the majority of Brits are immigrants themselves (although if you go back far enough the people in all countries are immigrants, if the theory of all mankind originating in and spreading out of Africa is accepted).

Genetic studies have proved that around 80% of British people have DNA evidence of their ancestry going back 12,000 years on these islands. Added to which DNA evidence has also revealed some may go back as much as 40,000 years in the British Isles.

The waves of comparatively small immigration over the centuries by Normans, Vikings etc., has had remarkably small impact on the overall DNA picture, which remains doggedly 'indigenous British'for the majority.

In fact, indigenous Brits have been in these islands longer than some peoples in other lands who are regarded as indigenous to their countries - Maoris in New Zealand being a clear example.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how many Romanian pickpockets are arrested on an average day, pre-the mass invasion the Tory press has promised us, in London?

And how many native born Londoners?

dont have the info you asked about _nny, but i did read a report where a senior police officer from staffordshire was calling for urgent action to deal with immigrants. Apparently they are responsible for 7.5% of crime in his area. No mention of what action was to be taken in regards the other 92.5% though.

In terms of percentage of the population it's difficult to tell as we don't have exact figures for how many Romanians are here. There are only guesstimates.

Percentages ain't too important in this case.

We're told two Romanians were arrested the day the 'borders opened' . How many were arrested the day before?

How many Polish folk? Or English? Or Scots?

To quote our earlier post:

But then you said it didn't matter as you were really just referring to the OP's (possibly untrue) post.

I said the percentage didn't matter because the OP had quoted a number - in this case 2. Not that the OP had claimed x% of Romanians had been arrested.

Following redundancy I have been forced to move my family to one of Aberdeen's less salubrious neighbourhoods.

We have a fair few immigrants living close by. Without exception they are great neighbours.

On the other hand many of the Scots are a disgrace. Often unemployed, alcoholic or junkies.

They embarrass me when they boast of their Scottish heritage.

I would be delighted if we could swap them for as many hardworking, ambitious, educated and courteous immigrants as possible.

I wouldn't go there at all. Any time, day or night.

1) because it's south of the river and there's no need to go south of the river for anything. The river is there for a reason.

2) because it's a dump. Only a few years ago it was a bit down at heel but offered a wide selection of ethnic food shops - butchers, fruiterers, fishmongers etc but in the last few years it's become a 15 to a room slum, owned by absentee landlords (who give the good guys a bad name).

Nothing a few days heavy bombardment wouldn't cure.

been reading all the post that were going on here , and as a romanian that came here in 7 years ago , in search of a better life , all i can say is that is a really hard one to judge, on one side i totally understand where some people come from.i guess when people think of romanians ,they think of all the ones that come here and begg and pickpocket, which is not the case , the ones that are here will be here to make easy money and fast they dont care the type of image they leave behind. i guess its all the romanian gypsy's that u see on the streets and on tv and thats not what romania is all made out of ,as a romanian living here i eneded up loving scotland , its a great place and yeah u hve more opportunities than other countries (job wise) but i cant see myself whithout a job for a day , to me begging and stealing its not an option ,but it hurts so much to see all the media and papers targeting romanians , more that 85 procent of romanians dont wanna hear about uk they are happy where they are ,and uk its not the only country with an ok economical situation. anyway what im trying to say is dont judge romanian or romanian people based on what u see or hear .but i understand ur pain some of u ) !

As usual this is not a black and white issue. Yes, we need immigration, no we shouldn't be undercutting nmw as a result of it. Yes, many immigrants come here, settle, improve the place and broaden our own horizons, no, we shouldn't encourage those who refuse to integrate and see our benefits system as an easy mark. The liberals say those who abuse the system don't exist and the right say nothing but those exist and the truth is somewhere in the middle.

As a result we don't have rational debates about what to do because the race card is always played and so we're making the same mistakes we did with the Asian community. Ghettoising them, allowing enclaves to spring up within our communities where they don't learn the language and we don't trust them or encourage them in.

When I take my daughter to the local park she is often the only English speaking child there and is ignored, despite her best efforts by most of the kids. I've even seen parents tell their kids not to talk to her. There are some kids who play with her, but often only till other polish kids turn up. This tells us 2 things 1. We're allowing language to become a barrier and 2. Not enough Scottish parents take their kids to the park.

Well, the Celts came from Portugal-way, everyone with blue eyes has Turkish ancestry , a large percentage of Scots and northern English have Scandinavian blood and Saxon, Norman and Germanic races populated and altered culture significantly in England. Not to mention the 'Romans', mostly from Gaul, and the influx of people from the Empire. I can kind of see where the mongrel tag comes from.

Google and read Prof Stephen Oppenheimer's genetic studies and you'll see that the DNA make-up of the British people has been minimally affected by the relatively small phases of immigration in over 2 millenia. The effects of the Roman's, Viking's, et al, DNA amounts to less than circa 20% within the indigenous Brits. Invaders came and, largely, went again, leaving only some of their numbers behind who settled, integrated into the population and of course made their imprints on our culture.

As a nation we are no more mongrels than, say, the French, Germans, Italians, etc. whose borders have been porous throughout history, certainly far more so than ours, thanks to Britain's island status. Strangely though, no-one ever seems to label our European cousins with the insulting and factually wrong,'mongrels'.

The influx from mass immigration in recent years is a whole different matter.....

I wonder what difference, if any, recent (say post 1945) immigration will make to the national DNA profile.

I've read Oppenheimer's book but genetics have moved on a bit since he wrote it and can track genes in a more sophisticated way. Not only do they now show there are Neanderthal blood genes in modern humans, it shows significant input from Scandinavia and far western Europe in the UK, Work has been done that shows there is more Northern European blood in the UK than previously thought.

At the end of the day- genetics are interesting but tribalism is wrong.

Tribalism may be wrong, but it’s a bit naïve, in a happy clappy, ‘we’re all one big happy human family’ way to think constant guilt-tripping for being British, mea culpa self-flagellation, and opening our borders to all will prevent it. Suspicion and caution of strangers comes naturally to all humans who invariably look after family/clan/tribe/countrymen/those with whom they share common values, etc., before strangers. Even so, it says much about the character of the British that the mass immigration of recent years has been accomplished so peacefully. But we simply cannot sustain unlimited immigration.

You only have to look at Eurovision to see tribalism at its most comical (and doesn’t our repeated nil points underline the affection and respect everyone has for the UK as well?).
