As a trucker, I spend lots of hours on the roads, and the older I get, the less tolerant I get.
Drivers bad habits are starting to really piss me off, and I include fellow truckers in that! The main thing that makes my blood boil is, drivers that use fog lights for the slightest bit of mist...then leave em on when it clears!!! It makes me wanna swerve my truck and drive over them
So, what really makes you curse and shout on the roads................ |

I agree with the fog lights Trucker.. remembering that some folk switch them on just for the 'cool' effect!
I drive 50,000 mile a year now and so
My pet hates are:
Drivers on the motorway that overtake you then brake sharp and pull into the space in front to take the very iminent exit ramp even though there is a huge gap behind ya. Dont they see those big blue signs about a mile before the exit?
Also, those that drive at 40mph in a NSL (60) zone and then continue to drive at 40 when they hit the villages that are 30.... but speed up when there is a straight to prevent you overtaking.
Then there is those that drive religiously at the speed limits and think because they are driving at the speed limit they switch their brain off and forget to indicate or use any other of their senses while driving. The mentality of if im doing 30 then I 'must' be safe!
What else?
When your approaching a junction a car will make that extra special effort to pull out on you just to then toddle along at 20mph...
Im sure there is loads more, could go on for ages here, lol

Lmfao...Steve, are you sure you aint a trucker in disguise mate! I couldn't of said it better, and the 'cool effect' from the front fog lights should be banned!!! Im sure they dont realise that the front fogs are actually brighter than their dipped headlights.
Arghhhh, it turns me green and makes me wanna rip my shirt off!!! |

To use fog lamps when they are not required is actually a traffic offence but I'll bet hardly anyone has been booked for it.
Pet hates: Drivers who think that indicators are an optional extra on their vehicle, hence drivers who approach a roundabout and you have'nt a clue where they are going and then they indicate when they are on the roundabout!;drivers who leave a motorway and indicate only when they enter the slip road.....Doh !!
As for lorry drivers......well how many of you will put your hands up and admit that you have pulled out on a motorway to overtake your fellow trucker and then taken over a mile to complete your manoeuvre leaving a trail of hacked of car drivers in your wake..... |

Good point on the truckers overtaking, and I will admit my worst case took around 10 miles to overtake, lol, but luckily it was at 3am on the 3 laned M74 up in Beattock...But yeah some truckers just hate to be overtaken by another truck, and some just do it to piss off cars... |

Loads and loads but the main 1 is these bastards who sit in the overtaking lane refusing to move and dictating the speed other traffic will drive at. They think theyre so safe sitting there below the speed limit not giving a shite about the line of traffic and frustration behind them. You should legally be allowed to ram these cunts off the road and quite possibly be allowed to stop once they have crashed to a halt and shoot the fucker right between the eyes.
Im no a fan of bus drivers either.........or taxi drivers. Cyclists can get to fuck aswell as can little bastard teenagers who think its cool to dander in front of you. Think thats it.

Truckers - use the train!
Truckers - get the feck off the road!
Truckers - DO NOT REPEAT DO NOT overtake on dual carriageways or 2 lane motorways! You can make my blood pressure go thru the roof!
I've had my car serviced and an anti tank gun installed, if you feel you want to do 56mph past another lorry doing 55.5 mph for the next 30 fecking miles i'm going to use it! Mucky Trucker ur fine cos u only do 35 mph and knock down road signs along the way pmsl.

Oh Mucky! You certainly know how to get me ranting!
OK, here goes........
1. Fog Lights - turn the feckers off when you don't need to use them
2. Indicators - they come as standard oddly enough, not an optional extra - use them!
3. Slowing down at roundabouts when there's clearly nothing coming
4. Slow cars that hog the outside lane when the inside is clear - pull over - either that make undertaking legal, after all it works perfectly well in other European countries.
5. Traffic Cops - think they're all holier than Thou but in actual fact they're worse
6. Truckers.........hmmmm, nuff said really......lol
I'm pretty sure there's plenty more that p155es me off, let me have a good think.

Hhmmm what motorways are you using, I didn't think trucks are allowed in the outside lane
For me, people who don't move over as you are joining a motorway ( assuming they have room too of course )
Tribly wearing middle lane hoggers on the motorway.
Truck drivers who think it is good to try and sit on my backseat.
Women drivers who drive with a death grip on the steering wheel and never use mirrors.

All of the above.................
And the muppet trucker that did not use his mirror, or even his eyes today, and pulled out infront of me on dual carraigeway. Had to ram on the brakes to avoid him, and then go home for change of underwear!!
The b*****d did not even acknowledge my hand gesture when I passed him, eventually!!!! lol .
I should have realised that his mirrors were just for show, because just before he pulled out on me, he failed to see a traffic car, lights blazing, sirens wailing and shifting, the cops undertook him to get past !!!
Silly me lol xxx |

" the only time a car should move over to the fast lane is if its clear to do so and he or she has built up enough speed so as the vehicles in that lane do not need to slow down or take evasive action. |

Most of us would know that.
But if they have nowhere else to go and need to move over, a considerate driver would let them.
Trucks are still not allowed in the fast lane of a lane motorway though. |

Under no circumstances does any driver NEED to move over to allow a vehicle from the on ramp to join a motorway. Trucks and buses are in fact, allowed to use the fast lane on the motorway but they are not permitted to use the overtaking lane on the far right hand side of a three lane motorway. They are also permitted to use the outside lane of a two lane motorway for overtaking purposes i.e. on the M77. |

So where would you expect them to go if everyone stayed in the inside lane? Come to a standstill and join the motorway with fast moving traffic from first gear?
It is common courtesy to move over for them to join the motorway.
It still doesn't answer which motorway you are using that has trucks in the outisde lane.

Thankyou...you mean a two lane motorway which is totally different scenario.
I would still think any sensible driver would be able to notice what everyone else is doing on the road, and know that the car is trying to get on a motorway so the truck on the inside lane of a 2 lane motorway in your case would be needing to move over to let the car on, so would be a curteous driver and let him.

There are only two SPEED lanes on the 3 lane motorway. The slow lane and the fast lane. The outside lane on a three lane motorway is classed as the overtaking lane and any driver using this lane should return to the fast or middle lane after overtaking a slower moving vehicle. Lorries and buses are permitted to use this middle or fast lane on the motorway. What you are failing to grasp is the fact that on a three lane motorway, the middle lane is the fast lane. I have not suggested that the outside lane is the fast lane on the motorway because in actual fact, the outside lane is overtaking only. This is where you seem to be getting mixed up.
As for traffic joining the motorway from the slip road. When you are travelling on the major road, you are not obliged to give way to any traffic coming from a minor road which is what the on ramp is. At the end of the on ramp, give way lines are painted on the road which tells the driver on the minor road to be prepared to stop and give way to traffic on the major road if it is necessary to do so. It is entirely up to the driver already on the major road as to whether he decides he wants to move over to let another car join the motorway. He is not obliged to change lanes and is certainly not obliged to move himself from the slow lane on the motorway into the traffic travelling at higher speeds in the fast lane. It is up to the driver what he does and the car joining from the slip road should not expect someone just to move over for them. For a driver to move from the slow lane to the fast lane safely, he must make sure that there is a sufficient gap to enable him to increase his speed when joining the fast lane to match the speed of the other cars already there. At no time should a driver pull out in front of someone and cause that person to brake or take evasive action to prevent a collision because they have been going to slow when pulling out. |

Actually the middle lane and the third lane of a motorway is classed as overtaking lanes.
What you have failed to do is actually read what I have said.
At no time did I say anyone on a motorway is obliged to move over to another lane if someone was trying to join a motorway, the drivers already on the motorway have the right of way. I said common courtesy would normally make a driver do it.
The same courtesy could be used if anyone saw that unless a truck moved into the 2nd lane of a two lane motorway the car trying to get onto a motorway won't have anywhere to go. Most drivers who were aware of what was going on around them would do this.
But to get back to the OP question, I think I might add to my list....drivers who have no courtesy and think this is my lane and I am not letting anyone in it. |

How about those ladies who do their make up while driving??? (and I include mascara application!) or....as I have personally wintessed tonging their hair, using their rear view mirror as a "vanity" mirror!! WTF!!!!
Add to that A**holes on their mobile, worse still TEXTING!! Reading newspapers/reports whilst on M-way.
Having used the M8 from Edinburgh to Glasgow alot recently...what is it with drivers on the 2 lane section??? "YOU CAN USE THE NEARSIDE LANE AS WELL!" All these Fannies sitting nose to tail in outside lane when inside is empty!!!
....I must admit to undertaking on this section....but in my defence I was travelling at a steady reasonable speed (55/60mph) on the inside lane...and because said fannies were braking and
accelerating and braking, I ended up sailing by them all! Perhaps one day they will learn.

Best one I ever saw was a lady texting, but she was using both hands and steering the car by resting her wrists on the steering wheel. To cap it all off she had a fag in her mouth.

And guys who think its smart to approach a junction at nutty speeds and rely so much on the brakes working,if foot slips off pedal it would be "game over".

Hearing you on that 1 mate.
Another 1 that ive had on a couple of occasions. When youre coming up to a halt at a junction but the drivers your giving way to anticipate youre gonna keep going so take evasive action and give you a mouthful of abuse even though youve stopped and are nowhere near them |

i agree ruby, and to allow the person on the on ramp to get up to speed to join the motorway safely. not joining a motorway in first gear having to build up speed with cars coming up your backside at 70 mph.
i drive a hell of a lot of miles every year with work and my pet hates are :
the above said, drivers not being courteous and moving over when they can to let you join the motorway grrr
drivers who put out in front of you at a junction then crawl the whole way grrr
boy racers who slam on the brakes when approaching speed bumps so they dont take arses off their wee piddly cars dbl grrrrr
ppl on country roads at night who either coming up behind you or towards you forget to dim their lights grrr
there are loads and loads more but i think i will stop there lol

What a lovely journey we could all have if we took more time to be courteous, polite and less angry on the roads
Oh, by the way, I find Scottish road users to be way more understanding and polite, than my fellow English road users, so keep up the good work on the M74, M8, A80 and M9.... and ladies, if you pass a GIST truck, give him a wee flash, lol |

Well noot having driven up Scotland I wouldn't know, but I have just been along the M6 for two hours and it was a very uneventful drive....and if I would have been the passenger I would have given the truck drivers a flash |

"drivers who "straight line" roundabouts...fine if nothing on your inside lane....but not so funny when im on your off side mate...you have just squashed me into the roundabouts kerb...cheers ya muppett.........oh...and 9 times out of 10 its some bint in an audio q7 or range rover!!!!!!!!!
Hearing you on that 1 mate.
Another 1 that ive had on a couple of occasions. When youre coming up to a halt at a junction but the drivers your giving way to anticipate youre gonna keep going so take evasive action and give you a mouthful of abuse even though youve stopped and are nowhere near them"
Not suggesting you do,but if folks are taking evasive action its them clocking your approach to junction at speed, your maybe confident your stopping but sometimes car body language seen from others looks pretty scarey, coincides with what i said above,if ever been on a motorbike it becomes second nature to see all potential dangers coming at you.
In this weather, you can have the best brakes going, you still might get a wee fright though. |

Bigest bugbear on the road .....
those who tailgate ... flashing lights for you to move out thier way, even though your passing slower trafic......then they undertake you before you get the chance to move over once your clear of the slower traffic, andi hasten to add your doing the speed limit or a mile or 2 over ...........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!!!! |

" Cool, the camp power rangers are generally on tip top bikes, GSXR1000, Yamaha R1, all capable of 0 - 60mph in bout 2 seconds, so if you'd be so kind to check out the left lane for maybe 5 secs, he will soon be "past n gone",,,lol, "The car in front WAS a toyota",luv that one. |

yup, fastest accelerating vehicles on the road i agree, beautiful machines......but are the riders vision, decision making and reflexes as fast as said vehicles?
in general i have no issue with bike riders, im pointing out one issue that i dont agree with.
that along with the "I CAN SO I WILL COS IM ON A GSXR 1000,YAMAHA R1, DUCATI 996 AND ALL TINTOP DRIVERS ARE DANGEROUS AND WE ARE NOT" thought process is the only thing that gripes me. |

noticed all the references to lanes on motorways ............when was last time most of you read the highway code.
lanes 2 and 3 are overtaking lanes as most have said, once you clear slower trafic in lane one or two ..... you are obliged to return to the nearest clear left hand lane........ in otherwards if lane 1 has no slower traffic than you in it .....USE IT do not hogg the middle lane. |

Totally agree i drive a LWB merc van, no central rear mirror, so if mr biker is central to my mid section of van and reading the van dealers phone number on my number plate(bit close),lol,if im not a regular mirror checker, which by the way seems symptomatic of a lot of folks gripes in this thread, "hogging the fast lane" etc,is part n part of hypnoticaly driving along oblivious to whats going on behind you.
The last biker that wooshed by me gave me the fright o my life,,, miss spelt my text and everything, lol

My pet hates?
1. Silver car owners who don't bother with lights in the fog. Your car is invisible then, ya twat.
2. Folk who are afraid of the outside lane. They come up behind you at speed when you're overtaking slow traffic then sit there until you pull in despite lane 3 being empty.
3. Eejits who come up behind you at speed then hover 5 yards behind you until just before you need to pull out to pass slower traffic.
4. When cycling, drivers who accellerate like a maniac to turn left at the junction you're already passing.
5. Those who think indicating is something others do.
6. Those 'National speed limits apply' signs. They were designed when there were two speed limits and have no place on the road now. |

saw another thing that realy pisses me of on the road today.
People who do not even attempt get clear the way way for EMERGENCY traffic ..even when they have "blues and 2's" going.
Come on people ...... think next tme it could be you , and time in such cases is soo important !!!!! |

Ohhh my toooo much rage!!! There is no point in letting anyone upset you because 9/10 cars are like people they have an arsehole (usually driving!) and remember the next arsehole is only 20 meters down the road! Buy a pair of blinkers and ignore them all lol |

Just to throw a spanner into the works re. the foglamp debate.
A foglamp has a lens that is used to diffuse light. Most cars now have driving lamps and they not proper fogs.
I do agree that peeps shouldnt have them on to look cool. However, sometimes i drive country roads at night and mine light up the verges better. Also the state of the m8 jsut now at night when u cant get ur lights on full beam means that with the state of the raod markings you can harldy make out the lanes and before u ask my eyesight is fine.
Repair the roads i say!!!!!!
pet hates = BMW&Audi drivers that never signal!!!
And sooy to say truckers that take miles to overtake one another lol |
