the Philipenes typhoon tragedy
Jump to: Newest in thread
My heart goes out to all those poor unfortunate folk who have been affected by the typhoon in the philipenes many of the dead are reported to be children I can't imagine what a horrible experience it must be for all concerned but it's something that deeply worries me considering the fact that I'm from a small island myself and I've seen firsthand the mighty power of mother nature to create such beauty and to destroy it all in the same breath,I've been fortunate enough to live through some hurricanes and live on an island with a volcano that has the potential to erupt anytime, scary times to say the least |

Yes it's so tragic watching those poor people on tv pleading for help.
It's uncomprehendable unless you've Been through anything like that to imagine what it must be like for them.
I was in Thailand in August and visited some of the places that was hit by the tsunami on boxing day a few years ago and heard some if the stories of locals who survived it ,on one of the lslands they have tsunami escape routes but in all honesty there is no where to go apart from as far away from the water as you can.
But for thoes who saw that tsunami hit
It comes in so fast you have no chance to escape should it happen again.
It certainly put things into perspective
When we complain about the rain we get
God bless the survivors and I hope help gets to them soon xxx |

Makes you realise we are lucky to live in an area with relatively calm and predictable weather, still we will all have a whinge as winter hits us. C'est la vie
do you think theres any truth in the conspiracy theory that disasters are the work of tent and blanket manufacturers ?
They always seem to be the first things sent out to help |

One does wonder why these major disasters seem to happen for the most part in poor countries hmm "Makes you realise we are lucky to live in an area with relatively calm and predictable weather, still we will all have a whinge as winter hits us. C'est la vie

I agree, i'd rather the whole amount went where is was needed most, but WHERE do I send the money to ensure it does??? |

send me the £30m and ill make sure that 99.9% of the money goes to where its needed rather than the potential 30% if even that will currently end up where its needed;-) "having been in a typhoon force 8 I know how scary that was, I will be going into town on Saturday and looking for somewhere to make a donation,(I presume the likes of the red cross etc will have set something up by then) and hope that it helps in some small way, those poor homeless hungry people

I find myself wondering why despite the number of these types of events there still seems to be a lack of organisation by global organisations and governments.
it still seems that there is an overwhelming reliance on public donations and volunteer emergency responders.

well spotted,i wonder why the church hasnt stepped up to take a more significant habd in the matter considering the fact that such a tragedy is apparently an act of god, then shouldnt his numerous disciples jump with joy at the prospect of putting some of the countless billions of collection money towards helping gods children in their time of need rather than investing it in more bling than jimmy saville and on court cases and out of court settlements and pimped out bulletproof pope mobiles and rosa vino by the barrel load lol "I find myself wondering why despite the number of these types of events there still seems to be a lack of organisation by global organisations and governments.
