Some would argue that animal testing has helped to develop vaccines against diseases like rabies, polio, measles, mumps, rubella and TB.
Antibiotics, HIV drugs, insulin and cancer treatments rely on animal tests. Other testing methods aren't advanced enough.
Scientists claim there are no differences in lab animals and humans that cannot be factored into tests.
Operations on animals helped to develop organ transplant and open-heart surgery techniques.
They would also argue that a human life has a greater intrinsic value than an animal's life, therefore it is more preferable to test on animals. They'd also tell you that animal laboratories are heavily legislated to prevent unnecessary cruelty or mistreatment.
It may also be argued that millions of animals are slaughtered each year to feed the population, therefore what is morally wrong with using them for testing as they'd die for a far more worthy cause?
This aint a subject I take lightly (and all i ever try to do in life is to find the humour). Sometimes these pishy posts of mine are thrown up in order to generate a debate and am happy, as always, to come down on wither side of the fence.
Footnote:- The opinions I give in posts are not necessarily the opinions of this author |

simple test and I would not wish this on anyone, You have a terminally ill relative and a cure is found by testing on animals do you say no thanks think of the poor animals. In my case sorry it would be give them the cure and tough for the animals, the human race is a born surviver and we will survive no matter what, oh and anyone wishing to stand up and have these drugs etc tested on them do stand forward I'm sure the Beatson would love to have you |

and let's not forget that research on animals has not only led to cures, medicines and advances in medical technoligies for humans, but has benefitted animals as well. Heart worm medication for dogs was tested on animals and has saved the lives of countless thousands of dogs. Research on animals has also led to a better understanding of cat nutrition and he reasons why cats live longer etc |

Maybe keyword the terrible circumstances of Katie Piper, her life ruined by a psychotic ex who got heavy duty acid and through it in her face!
With super advancement in skin graph technology, stem cells technology, the girl who once told doctors and family "let me die" now,bit by bit is getting her appearance and most importantly life back.
Great, i think, to be able to do that with the aid of technology and research.

They get better looked after with food and comfy environment and strict standards, better than most of the poor dogs in kennels who end up saved in the nick o time by the rspca who had owners who thought they were a good idea, for a week!! Indeed if they were a clever breed, collie or something, were probably more intelligent than the owners.
Personnaly i think a classic example of cruelty are over the top dog owners who pay for their dog to be punted on a flight in a box in the dark in the cargo hold of an aeroplane just because they happen to be going on hols, poor things are scared witless, just because owner thinks its a "lovely" idea!
