yes,join the army/ forces..
train hard..
go on operations in the most dangerous place in the world for 6 months minimum whilst leaving your family behind, miss births, birthdays, xmas' and with many, come back injured or deceased..
get zero respect for it !! sorry but dont see the funny side to this one |

Once chatted to a guy in here in forces, i kinda nievely said i was worried for my mate going out to afghan for visit number 3, third time punted out there!!
Was expecting him to say something like, "well yes it a dangerous place etc".
But he simply said, "thats his job, what he does and what he signed up for".
You kinda have to say yes well ok.

thats what we join for T, for the last ten years the main reason for lads joining up has been the ambition of going to the middle east,not the wages or career. Its also very easy to get out now too as they dont want people going who want out, and especially if they have kids/ family (was very easy for me,and im now going back)
Your mate would have trained well,and went with the ambition to do the job well, workwith his mates and ultimately make a difference.  |

My dads is a RSM in the argylls..
He does a job n gets paid for it knowing all the while the sacrafices he had to make so he didn't moan about it!

won't be many people joining the army soon, they are stopping all recruitment as they are overmanned.
Only been married to Larry for 16 months and been out here with him for 15 months but I have so much respect for ALL our serving personnel and even more so for their wives and family. |

Join Up, was in the RAF 9 years, what a life, you learn skills,trades and make plenty of friends, and every one of them is proud to serve, they sign on the line they know the hazards, give them every respect!! |

my son n law was in the army for 6years tank regiment in munster.His sayin was u take the Queens/Kings shilling u do your duty u aint signin up for a picnic/Saying that he had a marvellous time and learned loads of skills still has a deep comardiere with his ex army mates |

Recession or conflict will always burst the forces ranks with volunteers.
Most know what they are in for,i dont know anyone i served with who wasnt gagging to "get their toes in the sand" as my old ssm used to say.
Its a career,not a job.And a damn good one too.Respect |

as i once told a holy joe bible bashing type who accused me of being married to a 'killer' on my own doorstep......soldiers are not killers, they r defenders of the likes of him, and enable him to have the freedom to lurk around married quarters frightening young wives whose hubbies r away defending!!... then i shut the door on his nose  |

it's more of a lifestyle than a job to most of us. anyone that's in the forces wants to be there, nobody joins up to see the world anymore. we join because we have what it takes inside us do whats needed.
i just wish the whole country shared the same views as you all and every squaddie would get the respect they deserve. take care.

Regardless of which branch of the Service you sign up, recruits are well aware of the chances of being sent to the Middle East etc.
I come from a family stepped in military honour so it was no surprise when I swapped my school uniform for a military one.
My generation had N Ireland, The Falklands etc to contend with. We knew the risks but hell we came back with memories to last more than a few lifetimes.
I think more should be done to encourage kids to choose the Forces as a career path instead of the Buroo, street corner, bottle of Buckie and a bit of blaw.
RESPECT to all my brothers and sisters over the Centuries who have pulled on a uniform. I'll tell you this for nothing you still don't get it from the Government or majority of the General Public.
As my old Granda would say "If it wasn't for the lads and lassies in uniform we would all be speaking fuckin German"

Xmas day a few years ago, choice of participating in
Its A Knock out or knocking on someones door at 4am
Funnily enough Its a knock out got cancelled.
A father of a blind girl, just walked over 500 miles to raise funds for his girls education needs. For those who missed his entry into the castle yesterday well he done good. |
