Yep - 2 days at 500cals (for ladies, 600 for gents) and they should be non-consecutive days - makes it easier, for a start.
I've been doing it since Feb - lost a stone and a half - dead easy if you find foods that bulk you up (soup, mushrooms, carrots, squid, fish) for few calories.
Lots of supermarkets have nice ready meals around the 350 cal mark. And as much tea/diet etc as you can handle.
Good luck

5:2 seems to work really well for a lot of people, miso soup and a tonne of steamed veg seems to help with the feeling full with little added calories.
Another option might be intermittent fasting where you eat in an 8 hour window every day and if you eat semi clean seems to work. Drink a lethal amount of black coffee also seems to make it quite easy. |

I've been on a diet for 6 weeks now. Lost 32 lbs. All I've done is limit calories to no more than 1,300 per day, walk for an hour a day at a decent pace and have a good gym session twice a week.
If you count calories, losing weight is easy. Well, easy-ish... |

That's similar to how I lost my weight, except from the exercise, but a huge part of it is will power, when that went all my weight went back on. |

I did the juicing thing,
All the fruit and veg you can put through a Juicer (not a blender, as you want the pulp removed).
Depending on your size the pounds just drop from you.
No eating just a fresh juice. It was not as hard as I thought. It also works as a detox, as the energy that the body uses to digest gets diverted to repairing the organs and burning those extra pounds.
I now juice fast only two days a week new to keep the effect.
That and a fresh blueberry, strawberry, pineapple, apple, lemon and ginger juice tastes great. |

I was prepared for torture, but it was not that bad tbh.
If you get hungry have a juice its that simple. There is plenty online about it.
It's the added health benefits that nailed it for me.
Each fruit and veg can target certain aspects if the body. I used a site called juice recipes for ideas. Has a breakdown of what can do what.

Burn more calories than you eat, it really is that simple....if you 5000 calories, burn 5100 and you will lose weight....
I eat rice and fish most days, very bland combine that with the gym and weight will stay off....diets do your body damage in the long term...
Although remember in the words of the king blues "too fat too thin it's just media spin, you look best when your comfortable in your own skin"
IMHO you look beautiful.... |

Thank you, but I know in my mind I need to loose weight.
Have done a well know diet and lost 2 1/2 stone, but when I stopped put most of it back on.
I just want to be a lighter and healthier, don't smoke and drink on a rare occasion.
So something's got to give. |

"Hmm this diet sounds ok might have to give it a try, fed up with my size, just need willpower "
I'm so with you there on willpower, I used to have a diet buddy, and I went along to groups weekly.
But I'm just finding it hard again to make that inital leap. |

Yeah agree that's the hardest part, starting out. Buddy sounds like a good idea, then you can keep each other going with encouragement when you do well or not so well |

It's actually really really easy, and the Beauty is its not actually like a diet. Say you choose Monday and Friday. On those days I only have coffee (with milk) during the day, have 600 calories at tea time. It's amazing what you can do with about 600 calories. Later on at night you do get hungry but the real beauty is that the next 2 or 3 days eat what you like. It's not like a diet. And the health benefits are much more than just weight. I have been doing it for about 6 months. I lost 19lbs in the first 3 months, then I was the weight I wanted, but I kept going because its really not like a diet, I just wasn't as rigorous. Still losing the odd lb but cholesterol level way down. Blood sugar level, way down. All in its a great thing to do. |

I've recently lost 2st 6lb!
Basically cutting out processed foods, complex carbohydrates, fizzy juice and increasing exercise.
I'm now at a stage where vanity has set in and I'm wanting that defined toned look and after consulting with a personal trainer he recommended the "military 3 day diet"
It's extremely tough apparently but you can loose upto 10lb in 3 days!!!
I'm now struggling to loose weight as I'm building muscle but it's trying to shred that last bit of fat that's so so challenging.
I'll be starting this on Wednesday so I'll update on how I go.

I can eat 500 calories 2 days a week an on the other 5 days eat what i like. I'm no gonna lose any weight. 5:2 diet only works if you are super disciplined, starve 2 days an next 5 stick to a low calorie controlled diet.
Only way i will lose weight is to cut calories an exercise more 7 days a week. |

Same.
If I ate what I liked instead if what I should eat. I'm more than likely going to gain weight if anything. I love carbs but carbs aren't kind to me.
Exercising makes a different to my body shape but it doesn't have much of an impact on the scales.
More protein in my diet helps me not feel as hungry but I wouldn't go as far to do the Atkins diet etc.

You miss the point. Over a week you should be taking in about 14000 calories. 2000 a day. Lets say you overheat now so take in 2300. That's 16100 a week. Do the 5-2 keep eating like you normally do for 5 days, that's 11500 plus the 1000 for the 2 days. That's 12500 a week. So your calorie count is 2500 a week below the recommended which equates to 1 lb.
of course exercise will help and reduction in calorie is the only way to lose weight. This is just an easy way to reduce weekly calories. Xx |

A woman is 1500 calories a day and a man is 2000 calories a day. Though there is other things to be taken into consideration. Such as height, age, etc.
I don't see how fasting then eating what you want is healthy for you. Surely eating little and often is better for your metobalism .
Daily protein is particularly important for dieters who are restricting calories, because protein is burned for energy when carbohydrate and calories are scarce.
For me it's not just about weight but also my health and fitness.
That's just my opinion and I'm not trying to make a point. |

Not missing the point...
Bread, Rice, Potatoes and Pasta are a no no for me....Nothing to do with being on a diet...
But it most certainly helps
Protein does stop hunger cravings and it much easier to digest without the high carbs....
