BIKE RUN 1st for 2010
Jump to: Newest in thread
Its that time of the year when some are unhibernating their bikes from their winter nesting place. Some might be on a new bike .
So how about a nice easy run to start the new year. the starting point will be Glasgow city centre and will be a run for all sizes of bike from 125cc up. there will be no motorway sections on this run so if you are a learner you can ride with us.
It is a great way to meet some of the folk from the site who are in to motorbikes as well .
For the non bikers who want to attend and meet us for lunch -great .
if you have never ridden on the back of a motorbike im sure some of us will be willing to let you ride pillion after lunch.
So what date in mid to late March would best suit everyone

"any date for my as long as this ice has lifted D"
since it is the 1st run of the season and most will want an easy one the start time will be 11am - gives you a bit of time to get in to the city and for the roads to heat up so any ice will be gone (fingers crossed)
but as normal if the weather is bad the run will be put of till another day .
remember there is the easter egg run as well |

ok a date that might suit every one is the weekend of the 27th 28th march so do folk want sat or sunday for the run.
going by google map the run will be about 1 1/2hours long leaving from glasgow city centre and we will stop for lunch and meet any of the car drivers who want to meet.
if you want to know details of the route or where lunch will be just email me .
for folk wanting to try pillion
please if you want to be a pillion on the back of a bike wear trousers or jeans ,a heavy jacket and sturdy boots and not shoes. this is for your saftey and any rider will have the right to refuse if you are not dressed correct. We will try and have a few spare helmets to fit as well as gloves.
remember this is a fun day out and nothing can be garanteed ie the weather

went out for a look at the route of the run and part of it is still snow covered so the route has been revised to take this in to account . the length of the run is still the same but over a route that has no snow and very few potholes. as normal the run is covering all types of road from 'A' roads to a few 'B' roads. Since i don't know if there are any 'L' plate riders coming yet i have ommited any motorway sections.
found a nice spot to stop for coffee and then a great pub for lunch |

if anyone need the details of the run can they email me and ill send them .
it you are a car driver and never been a pillion but want to give it a try can you email me
as ill need to bring spare helmets ( please measure round your head in cm and let me know the size for saftey) and ill tell you where lunch is going to be and then you can meet there. this way eveyone gets a good day out and we can all relax over lunch.
can other riders please let me know if they are ok with pillions as it saves me doing all the work |

Hope you all made it back shiny side up and relatively warm?
Do admit to feeling a teensy bit jealous as we drove back on the windy and undulating roads. But that was from inside the car, with air con sat at 20 degrees and not the 7 degrees it was measuring outside, so the jealousy went away quickly!
good to see you all again

good to see new faces from far and wide as well as the regulars.
declan in a mankini - i nearly choked on my chips
ok so the 1st run of the season is over and as said it was a short run to get folk back out on their bikes and meet other members.
the next run will be longer and and have a fuel stop every 75 miles or so for declans wee tanks to get a fill, ill even carry the gerry can just in case.
if anyone has ideas of routes or locations can you email me them and ill make them up into a route for the start of May, keeping to a run every 6 or 8 weeks. if the summer turns out to be good one ill try and set up a motorbike camping weekend if folk show interest. |
