A BBC investigation has found that fake profiles are apparently being used to encourage people to pay a subscription to a Scottish internet dating company.
It found evidence that Cupid plc dating sites seemed to use fake messages or profiles to entice people to subscribe.
The Information Commissioner said it appeared to breach data protection laws and wants to investigate further.
Cupid plc has denied using fakes and said it was cleared of organising fake profiles by auditors.
Tainted Love - The Dark Side of Internet Dating will be shown on BBC1 Scotland on Thursday 25 July at 19:00. |

A good programme but nothing in it that surprised me.
I tend to overanalyse any attention I may get on sites and am fully aware of another "adult hook up" site using fake profiles to entice standard members to upgrade.
The programme is worth watching; if only for the experiment where 163 available women popped up as within 5 miles. Ok in Glasgow perhaps, but this was a remote island with a TOTAL population of only 160!
I'm quite sure my face pics, displayed elsewhere, have been traded and appear on sites I have no membership of. With the site I've alluded to, membership conditions give the site use of all content in whichever way they see fit. Furthermore, this access is given in perpetuity. |

Think this practice goes on on most of the big dating sites and the like, certainly does on other ""adult"" interest sites,,, sign up and all of a sudden half a dozen hot girls aged 20-35 in my town ( never seen them ever before in my life) want to meet me...i mean that just happens in the wee crappy half dead town i live in.... NOT lol |
