Did anyone see the item on "Watchdog" regarding the Insurance companies that refused to pay a customer for a break-in? The customer claimed for stollen iPod & tweeted that he was listening to music. The Insurance Co then refused to pay the customer as they believed he still had his iPod, but he was actually listening to music on his iPhone! He got an email questioning this from his Insurers. Now there's Big Brother in action.
On the same item an Insurer refused to pay out to a man who had terminal cancer disputing that certain symptoms, although similar to symptoms for another illness he had honestly admitted to, were not disclosed. They stopped a payout to a dying man who had to not only fight for his life but fight to get a payment he was due.
Why do honest people seem to get the short shrift in life? Jeez, watching Twitter feeds & denying a dying man his money. What is this world coming to? |

I have had mostly positive experiences with insurers, but when I hear of stuff like this, particularly the second case, it does grind my gears. What, in the grand scheme of things, is a piddling amount of money to make a dying mans' last days easier.... Bastards. |

as someone who works in the insurance industry these stories do not surprise me in the slightest
the majority of insurers will try and find a loophole, or some other means of not paying claims. however, on the flip side, there are some insurers who will work with you and find a way of paying claims that might otherwise have been refused.
its a very fickle industry, and my advice to anyone is make sure the I is dotted and the T is crossed to make sure there is no comeback

So how do we find the reputable ones that pay out when we've paid the premiums promptly & in good faith? Any tips? |
