Salt n sauce, come of it!!!
Was in a chippy in Edinbugger not long ago and for the first time ever the words 'salt n sauce' were uttered to me.
When i said salt n vinegar i got the "you're weird" look
So what is it in your neck of the woods?? |

"lol!
question is always 'salt and sauce?' here
just sauce for me tho. and lots of it. vinegar would be good too actually
x"
Isn't Edinburgh chippie sauce just Gold Star watered down with malt vinegar? That's what it tastes like. |

ALWAYS salt n vinegar! (Though I also once got a shock when an Edinburgh chipper if I wanted "salt n' sauce"...I thought the guy was being kinky!). Nothing like that vinegary waft as you open the poke o' chupsh! (Or newspaper in them goode ole dayez!).
I do recall asking for a white pudding supper down in Auld Reekie one time and the server looking bewildered at me as though I'd just asked for some weird, Aboriginal bush-tucker...! |

Take your own newspaper. THEY can't wrap your food up in it but YOU can |

Yeah. There was a suggestion of a link between printers' ink and cancer. I don't suppose ink is very good for you but I can't imagine that the quantities involved would do you much harm. |

Get all three options here in fife, and i have a quirky wee rule o thumb, only buy fish n chips at a chippy you can lob a chip in the harbour from the chippy (fresh),, and whys this reminding me of Pulp Fiction and the chat John Travolta and Samuel Jackson have in car bout what they have "in europe man", mayonnaise!!
Anstruther chippy, ticks all the boxes for me, any day,lol

I'm from a place where Salt & Sauce is the norm on your chips but have since moved to a place where it's Salt & Vinegar.
Personally, Salt & Sauce wins every time! |

"Salt n vinegar..and throw in a pickle "
could open a whole new thread here, but nothing touches a fish supper with salt n vinegar, a buttered roll for some of the chips (add own tomato sauce - no the brown Embra stuff!) and a pickled EGG. Chippy pickled onions are rank but pickled eggs?........ Yummmmeeee |

Think salt and sauce is mostly a Lothian thing, salt ad vinegar everywhere else. I'm a salt and vinegar man myself and as for asking for a meelie puddin' in Edinburgh...the look you get is like you just asked for it in Hindi!
I have about 15 £1 notes in the house which I keep especially for going down to England! Funny as fuck!! They couldn't look more surprised if I cut my cock off and threw it in the till!! |
