I've been to the dam several times but never for the red light distract or cafes...I recently read a book on the behind the scenes of the sex industry im Amsterdam & the true account of a young British woman who replied to am add in the papers for a nanny and apon arriving in Amsterdam she was abducted at gun point & forced into a world of sex slavery & drugs...frightening stuff to say the least...but Amsterdam is certainly a very interesting place with a good gallery although that's not the reason that 99% of folk travel there

I had read that they had recently changed the law to the effect whereby only locals were allowed to smoke cannabis in the cafes...id hate to think what kind of an impact that would have on local tourism hmm but im sure there are ways to get around it

You can smoke grass in the cafes but not mixed with tobacco...

Lol when I was there in feb you could still smoke grass n that in cafes, don't think they are bringing this law in till at lest 2015 but don't think it will happen.

Pretty much all of them are OK as long as you hide the fag end or take it with you. Smaller, less commercial places (which are generally better anyway) don't bother.

I was there last about 2 yrs ago and paid a euro to smoke cigs in a bar, the fines are minimal if caught for the owner and the euro collected from each smoker goes towards the fine, even get a receipt lol
