the land of unicorns and fairytales

A common theme I keep hearing is folk saying they can’t get appointments

Logged on today got an appointment for Thursday hundreds of available appointments

With the massive rise in oral gonorrhea in the central belt and folk not even following the proper protocols for abstaining for six weeks or even returning for their follow up checks it’s pretty concerning

I do mine every 8 weeks, and considering I’ve not even had a shag since before Christmas the reality is I don’t even need it but I’m still doing it religiously for now

What’s your excuse

It’s great and also easy enough to order online if you don’t want to go in but if you’re big enough to be playing you’re defo big enough to be responsible, always better to be pro active than reactive

People have no excuses these days. Post Covid STI’s saw a spike that hasn’t come down. People seem over confident that they haven’t got an STI because they don’t think they need to get tested. This has lead to the rise of STI’s.

Gonorrhoea in particular is on the rise, and unfortunately between misinformation, (and to be frank) stupidity and negligence, it’s getting hard to combat.

Sticking to the here and now, it’s particularly rife in the Edinburgh area right now, with the highest positive results coming in via Bathgate and Livingston areas.

There is a wide range of appointment centres available to test. The quietest test areas are the satellite outpost clinics. So don’t bother with city centre, focus on out of town if you want a quicker appointment time. But bear in mind, these centres only operate on specific days.

People need to know that it’s very easily spread, it takes a lot less saliva or other fluids, to catch.

And unfortunately scientists haven’t done new data in a long time. This is because the original data was focused on what’s known as the MSM community as part of a campaign to negatively stigma the gay male community.

So in short, if someone has it, it doesn’t matter if it’s their throat, or their cock, it’s not less risky depending on where it is. It’s still a health risk!

It's not difficult to get tested so don't understand that one. I get mine routinely.

Not sure where you are getting to abstain for 6weeks though. It's 6 days after treatment as long as your partners are treated also

I waited 3.5 years for a uid appointment and still had to travel to the other side of Glasgow.

I regularly forget to hit the confirm appointment button and think I've booked for a sti check, but most times they can get me in later that day or in the following days.

I do know some locations are better than others though.

I like to be tested regularly, however Ayrshire clinic seems to hate giving out routine appointments and I’ve spent more time arguing with them over the phone to give me an appointment! Occasionally get someone decent that will book me in but I end up having to pretend I’m a contact of someone that’s tested positive! It’s shocking!! I’m not in an area where I can get free tests delivered to me either! It’s a shambles of system down here

Symptoms take up to two weeks after contact so advice is two weeks testing treatment and get it checked again as a lot of the strains are resistant and that comes from my

Friend who works for Sandyford and the advice is online for anyone to check, she says most folk aren’t turning up for their repeat test and a lot of cases are being picked up at the GP as most folk don’t actively get check ups and go to the docs thinking it’s tonsillitis

The clinics when you go to get tested tell you. I went for my regular check last month at Sandyford and the nurse asked about recent encounters especially in Edinburgh/West Lothian as there’s been a recent outbreak in those areas they’re trying to contain.

It can take 14 days after infection to show on a test and anyone that has tested positive should not play until they have the all clear with another test after treatment.

It is currently doing the rounds on the scene so everyone should be arranging some kind of testing if they have been active.

For those that don't know, you can order at home rapid antigen testing kits for chlamydia and gonorrhea online for next day delivery for as little as £10. They are between 86% and 97% accurate and will give you a result in minutes. The NHS testing obviously covers you for all STIs but given the current situation with gonorrhea this would definitely give you peace of mind in the short term and would rapidly slow down the spread if we all done one before we next played.

It's just part and parcel of being more sexually liberal and there's no way to completely remove the risk but by talking and sharing information like this we can all make it a little bit safer for eachother.

Yes and no, each region has its own way of delivering the service. NHS Lothian online only issue certain number per day for postal delivery if you are symptomless. Can take days of trying at 9am to get the “run out for today, try tomorrow” message. I believe they also have it set up that you can only get a postal test every 3 months if symptomless too.

Booked online for FCH 2 weeks ago, easy to book, in and out in no time results via the automated line a week later, it could not be easier to do.

Always an increased risk if you’re sexually active, on the scene or not, just means more regular testing, but IMO you should do that for yourself and others you play with, you never know, it’s not like there are name badges to say who has what, I’ll keep testing, even if only for my piece of mind

It won’t be on Google, it’s from chats with the Chalmers staff which we are on good terms with. It might be that they publish statistics but I have no idea how you’d go about finding those.

We were aware of a spike in Edinburgh from people getting positive results. And from there we had asked the staff in one of the test centres.

I get tested regularly and also use protection . But that's not 100% either ! I find it extremely difficult to get an "in-clinic" test at a sexual health clinic and have actually phoned my doctors for tests more recently! Theyre reluctant but they do it ! The health clinics are more than happy to send out an at home test kit though .... If you phone on a Monday 👀🙄

Some of the online services are dreadful, specifically trying to book the ‘express no talk service’.

People just need to pick up the phone and appointments are ten a plenty. No excuse nowadays for putting yourself or others at risk.

Just for the avoidance of doubt btw, I can’t help myself, UTI infections do not show up on STD tests…that excuse still doesn’t fly..

A lot of the English clubs do it and most gay clubs do it regularly

I think as well for folk already attending clubs it’s not like they are worried about being spotted going there as opposed to the Sandyford etc

But what’s more scary is the folk not attending the follow up appointment and assuming the treatments are working when they clearly say you need a repeat tear and all the info online says the same because of resistance to treatment

Part of me feels like we should have a passport like sex workers to prove our last two results before we should play, it’s getting harder to trust folk now after hearing the statistics for Scotland when compared to England were a tiny community

If they have no symptoms, residents from the NHS Tayside area can get home tests posted to them if they have no symptoms, and swabs and blood samples can be handed into any GP practice in Tayside, and they are collected and sent to the lab, but there is an option to attend the clinic at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. I had a previous problem getting enough blood from finger using the supplied lance to fill to the minimum level for the home test kit, but other types of tests (similar to old Covid test kit) need less blood, and may be available in other areas?

If you’re sexually active with others,(even if ‘just’ oral), or with no symptoms, be responsible and get tested regularly!

Xx

Plus delivery is next day, the NHS delivery can take 5 working days.

Cheap as chips & worth it to ensure we're clean.

We may be filthy in the mind but clean in the body, and that's the best way.😈😈

What is the source of tests at 10, online kits I have seen are more in the 40 to 60 quid range.

Amazon £9.95

An Amazon test lol

Think il stick to my usual clinic lol

Research it!! It's £20 to test for both. Amazon is one of the places you can purchase a kit from a reputable company that is quality assured and tested

It's not a replacement for regular full sexual health checks but an addition to especially if you are between checks.

So many negative nellys on this forum. Its exhausting 😴

"

I'm quite happy with my clinic appointments so I'm not negative.

But yes, people here are very exhausting

"For those that don't know, you can order at home rapid antigen testing kits for chlamydia and gonorrhea online for next day delivery for as little as £10. They are between 86% and 97% accurate and will give you a result in minutes. The NHS testing obviously covers you for all STIs but given the current situation with gonorrhea this would definitely give you peace of mind in the short term and would rapidly slow down the spread if we all done one before we next played.

Good im pleased for you! At least others that do find clinic appointments have long wait times in their health board know there's other options while they wait, which can only ever be a good thing.

"A common theme I keep hearing is folk saying they can’t get appointments

Logged on today got an appointment for Thursday hundreds of available appointments

With the massive rise in oral gonorrhea in the central belt and folk not even following the proper protocols for abstaining for six weeks or even returning for their follow up checks it’s pretty concerning

I do mine every 8 weeks, and considering I’ve not even had a shag since before Christmas the reality is I don’t even need it but I’m still doing it religiously for now

What’s your excuse "

I have recently started exploring polyamory and felt a need to be tested for obvious reasons. Logged on yesterday and have an appointment local to me tomorrow. No hassles whatsoever.

Stonehaven

It seems there are a lot people who think because they have no symptoms they don’t need to be tested. Can’t get the free in the post kits in my area but got an appointment within a week.

People can still have STI’s without symptoms and go around spreading it about! Responsible adults need to get tested regularly and not shag different people every weekend as there would be no time to test/see if any symptoms develop! Cream pie lovers and gangbangers - great way to get an assortment of STI’s. No idea why so many people (for example) say they use condoms then let a guy cum in their mouth? Just thick! STI’s are spread just as easily through oral sex.

It's not just as easily. In fact it's a lot harder for some, though not all. Some spread just as easy through oral, but your facts are wrong.

Contradicting yourself I myself contracted Trich a couple of years ago after a party where I wasn’t penetrated - just engaged in oral (no semen in mouth) and I had to get antibiotics. We had only been with a couple of people prior to this and waited ages to meet anyone again. Almost put us off Fab as a 40 something married woman who had never had any STI in my life.

Bottom line is if more people get tested properly ie wait long enough in between meets to allow that, then STI’s wouldn’t be spreading so quickly and swinging would be cleaner, less risky and ultimately more fun for everyone!

I didn't say it was impossible. I said it's less likely. The most transferable is anal, then vaginal, then finally oral. Oral is increased by cuts, sores and bleeding gums, but without those is significantly lower than the other 2

I’m fully aware of that but thanks for your efforts

Still not worth the risk IMO - don’t require you to agree!
