I HATE being called 'lovey'! It sounds so condescending nowadays! I don't mind the above though, if used in the right context!

We never used any of the pet names in chat or messaging, until we had been on this site after a time.

When chatting and names havent been given, it does seem a bit cold not to use something sounding remotely affectionate
