part of the said article is urging the council to grant the license for the true purpose - ie if it is really a brothel give the license for that purpose. then taxes can be paid from the work/businesses, medical care etc can be provided legally for the workers instead of those running establishments pocketing more money than those working in them. |

apon seeing this post heading I thought perhaps that there has been a progression from bedroom tax to sauna tax lol neither would effect me of course but I pity those on housing benefit who have a sauna in their council flat lol |

On a more serious note, live and let live, police it by all means but forcing it underground is just mental, at least the girls have some sort of security in a sauna and are not walking the streets putting themselves at serious risk |

Croc of crap that, the council know exactly what goes on in them, think its just the new head of the police that wants to make Edinburgh same as Glasgow, they should just be honest.
I don't see an issue, they are there, if you want to go then people know where they are if you don't want to go don't if you don't approve ignore them. Closing them down is just going to encourage an underground culture which is far worse than having these places around.

AN Edinburgh pensioner is among five people to have been charged with alleged brothel-keeping following a police investigation.
************, 70, is facing court action after a raid on saunas that involved 150 police personnel.
In a separate development, Police Scotland has applied for the suspension of six sauna licences in the capital, including *********** **********, which is run by *******'s elder brother, *********.

I agree if it goes underground theyll have to have extra officers to police all the extra gals out on the streets along with some of the alleged imported girls and the anpunt of private flats in edinburgh as well.
Saunas provide a safe place to work and encourages people who are generally cleaner and better at their work because they want to do it and the sauna provides a sheltered place with security with which to do so. Just get them licensed and probably open a few more.
Plenty msps judges and police personnel use them anyway lolz |

"ALMOST half the saunas in Edinburgh will be forced to close their doors after having their licences suspended.
Six of the 13 saunas in the capital will have to wind up operations over the next month after a decision by the city council.
Police Scotland had submitted evidence to its regulatory committee which claimed the premises had breached the terms of their licences.
Seven people linked to the saunas have already been charged over allegations that sex was for sale on their premises.
The suspensions come after Scotland’s new single police force raided seven saunas and 11 other addresses in the city on 7 June, in Operation Windermere.

The saunas which will have to close have not been made public, but council sources say they are: Scorpio Leisure; The New Gentle Touch; Paradise Sauna; New Town Sauna; Blair Street Sauna; and Dundas Street Sauna."

"POLICE are to take action against the remaining sauna operators in Edinburgh after completing a sweep of premises which it is alleged are operated as brothels.
Seven more licensed saunas have been examined by officers from Police Scotland, with reports on the findings sent to the city’s regulatory committee.
Edinburgh City Council last week suspended the licences of the first six premises raided.
The city is unique in Scotland in that it has handed out public entertainment licences to saunas without asking for details of the nature of their operations since the 1980s.
Last month, 150 officers along with social workers and health and safety investigators carried out raids in an apparent crackdown against such facilities."

Yep it's due to the merging of the police force. Glasgows saunas have been shut for a while. There's a big split in the police force over it though with the east wanting them to remain open n the west wanting them closed.
Personally I can't understand why it's never been legalised, it would be safer for girls and punters alike whilst making our government money. |
