When I do my boys hair my ex still gives me a no1 all over so it only costs me the time it takes for my boys to winge while I do theirs lol.
And just for the record, now she's my ex - there's no naked barbering for me lol |

For himself, it's me, a set of clippers and various hilarious results as he doesn't like it too short.
A few times he has distracted me after i take the blade guard thing off saying i missed a bit and i go over it without thinking.... until i see the rather large stripe of very short hair...
Serves him right for distracting me though..
I always do it naked though, the tiny hair clippings irritate my skin if they get trapped in my clothes so nakkie is the way |

Wasn't me who set the prices though "

Yes i'm familiar with this argument, being in a trade where people think all we do is "draw stuff".
It's not unheard of for people to want 6 or 7 hours work off me for about £10 just because they don't understand whats involved.
When we work out how much something is going to cost someone , we take into account the skill level of the person doing the job, so for example i charge £20 an hour, whereas the hubby who is more experienced charges £25 an hour and we are cheap, but it took us years to get to the level that provides you with a quality product so i think that it's justified. Hairdressers and barbers on the other hand charging that much money for a 1st year skill level haircut that took them 15 min. Not ok, not in the slightest and one of the reasons people no longer want to pay for quality work. Give people value for money and customers come back, rip them off and... well will you be going back for another haircut there Brubru? |

I spent 3 years as an assistant, another 2 years as an improver with really shit wages... Over my 30 year "career" I've worked damn hard and attended lots of courses. I have also spent years travelling the country and teaching others cutting and colouring theory and skills.
The problem is everyone still thinks we are "just" hairdressers who don't deserve a decent wage like "professional" people... I know a lot if hairdressers who are still getting a pittance of a wage and it's unfair because they work damn hard and are constantly having to do courses to keep up with the latest trends. At the end of the day the hairdresser themselves aren't walking out with the money that's paid for a haircut... I personally think I'm worth every penny that it costs for me to do someone's hair |

"Would you have charged Brubru that for a 15 min clipper job though?"
In the salon it would have cost him £40 for me to cut it... Someone on a lower level would have been cheaper... After all the costs ie wages tax rent etc are taken off the salon would have made 3.75 from his haircut....
But I've already told him I would have given him a freebie |

For what its worth I pay £20-22 for a cut a blow dry in Edinburgh.
When I charge for servicing equipment I charge £90 an hour but then there are not many people who can do what I do and its very specialised. |
