World Mental Health Day -10 October

Today is World Mental Health Day. It’s important that we look after our Mental Health (MH) as much as our physical health.

Some people are open about their struggles and others find it difficult. Reach out to someone today and give them a call or pop round and see them. Compliment someone, give a word of encouragement or show your appreciation, words can lift someone just as easily as they can cut them down.

No idea, I'm lost. Damn Sat nav!

It takes a few mins out of your day to check in with those you know who are suffering from mental health .

This is not something to be joked about but sadly just heard about a status on here that is doing exactly that.

Shame on them !!

I've suffered mental health since I was 17 and it's not been easy but if there is anyone that wants a chat or even to rant to a stranger I'm always here. I never knew at the time there was so many people around to help me so I just want someone to know there is help or support.

In the west.

Many many people don't know the MH affects everyone. This could be depression, anxiety, PTSD etc but it can also be a bereavement, stress, having an off day and the list goes on.

A sad fact is that those who do mock people with MH issues just don't realise that it affects them as well and because they don't understand this they think it's okay to do this.

If only it was okay for everyone to talk about their own MH issues without the fear of being judged.

I was in tears watching it too. It certainly hits home how easy it is to assume who is struggling.

It is improving but you’re right, some people do still mock those who suffer. Take each day as it comes. x

It's okay to not be okay.

Reach out. The weight lifted from your mind sharing something is the start.

I saw it this morning. Didn’t expect the ending. Huge hugs to anyone who is struggling.

Ironically, CAMHS cancelled our youngest’s counselling appointment this morning

I saw it coming tbf. Just because I know how easy it is to disguise. Add a bit of confidence, jokes, shake it up like a cocktail and voilà.

And when I needed support, it was charity based suppliers that came through in the end rather than nhs in terms of being there when needed. They never cancelled.

Thanksfully there is more help for this, Dundee now has Hope Point, a community wellbeing centre thats open day and night to people struggling, so you can walk in and access immediate support! Hopefully every city can have access to something like this as waiting lists are a joke for help and not just medication.

Also organisations like andys man club, pnebumbra, feeling strong etc are all good services to access.

Also in Dundee there is a service called Active For Life its for people with physical but also mental health problems whether depression, anxiety, stress which is an exericse based programme with help, walks in groups, swimming, gym, etc. You can ask your Doctor to refer you. It may be in other areas check your council website.

There does need to be more done before people get to crisis point though still unfortunatley.

That sounds like a great resource. You’re right, people need and want help at the time they’re feeling low and struggling, they don’t want to wait for support.

Where I work we havd an employee assistance program and you can phone and sort counselling and help out. I'd like to think that more employers are providing some sort of outlet.

I love this post! So much great support available and outreaching into the communities is available. The trick is how to engage with those who need it and deliver the help in a meaningful and sustainable way that can help in the long game. Just wanted to add my bit. Cheers folks
