It's estimated that 6 million people in the UK have an Irish grandparent, stable door, horse and bolted spring to mind.

"There is a few polish shops about in glasgow I'd close our borders and get our own people back in work "

So is that just stopping all new immigrants, or stopping them and repatriation of the ones already here?

So assume that what you want happens, how are you then to get people to want to work in all the shit jobs they do.

I know someone who has been a chef at several nursing homes. The immigrant workers there were hard working and dependable. The native workers would be the first to slope off for a fag and phone in sick most Sunday mornings after a night out. And lets not forget that while they are working these people are contributing to the country.

There are very few jobs left worth doing in the country at the moment anyway. So entrenched are we in service industry and finance. All the manufacturing and engineering goes on in the far east where labor is cheap. Look round your house and count the items made in and outside of the UK. I'd be prepared to say the vast majority are foreign made.

Our problems began when we started pricing our labor out of the market whenor standard of living went up. Now we've too many people in general and stopping immigration will do nothing unless you start telling people to stop breeding for a few years.

Every new baby conceived is a drain on the national grid, food production health service and other social networks. Before it's even born.

So ban immigration to the UK if you like, but it won't make a jot of difference unless you stop our native population popping out kids without thinking about who's paying for them in the future.

Frankly the more Romanians, Poles etc who move here the better.

We are currently living in one of the less salubrious neighbourhoods in Aberdeen & any problems are caused by the Scots. Not the Romanians or whoever.

The junkies, alchohics, vandals, car thieves & burglers are all homegrown. On the other hand the immigrants are invariably polite & friendly neighbours.

Maybe we can arrange a swap. Our junkies for their people?

Ha Ha Ha! I'll bet the helicopter flight path, doesn't pass over Paisley...which incidentally has many Polish and now African shops opening up.

I for one take my hat off to them, leaving everything behind, often family members to forge a new life and work very hard in doing so......NOT like our youth today, who are 2nd/3rd generation straight from school to dole layabouts!

Don't give them ideas. We're already paying to have Gaelic signs erected in places Gaeldom never ventured.

signs in Gaelic is a good thing , attracts the yanks who are looking for a bit of genuine disney Scotland , and it confuses and irritates the english , which cant be a bad thing

Unless my geography teacher was completely taking the piss then every town/city has a west end

But wee word of warning I wouldn't take the Bentley - the native junkies would have it stripped while you stop at the lights

Tho not all our youth.

I work in recruitment and one of our night managers asked me before Christmas when we were recruiting if I could get him some Poles as they are much harder workers than anyone else

But I would like to say I advertised 15 temp crimbo jobs and got 546 applications (although only 324 passed the personality tests - which are NOT difficult). My point is there are people who want to work and can't get a job and a lot of people who are working but can only get part time hours when they need full time so often have 2 jobs on the go.

A lot of our managers are now recruiting 3 staff when one leaves giving them all 12 hours instead of 1 person having 36 - it means when they need o/t people will do it but also means when there is no o/ t people are struggling

a stretch bentley ? the neighbours would burn me out of town if i had anything as common as one of those but i dont think a lady such as yourself would need something like that , well , not unless you were bringing a lot of friends , must get the butler to give the leather a good polish just incase you fancy a spin

there was an agency called bran recruitment bringing slovaks over here who payed them minimum wage which entitled them to claim all different kinds of benefits

the rest of there wage was payed into an account in slovakia

my mate is on a waiting list for an operation because of cutbacks and these immigrants are claiming for kids that dont even live in this country

Was exactly the same with polish migrant workers. They can claim child benefit if there working over here but have kids and a partner back in poland. The money goes from the uk government straight into their families bank account in Poland. I'm against immigration but can see it from both points of _iew. Our younger generation are too fat and lazy to get off their arses to do a decent days graft and the immigrants are hard workers but on the same sense young people especially with kids can get more money from sitting in their own homes(paid for by the tax payer) than doing a decent days work. It's all the governments fault. Yes people need benefits to live but it's not right that you can earn more money fro benefits than working for a living. That's where the problem lies. Immigrants come here and work for less money than us. Sometimes a lot less but they can earn in a week here( minimum wage pay) than they would in the like of Poland, Bulgaria etc in a month. Something needs to be done and quick but this government are so inept and afraid to upset the political correct brigade they won't do a damn thing. We all just have to suck it up and get on with it. Taxpayers we are all needed to pay for immigrants and benefit scroungers.

I don't know how these people who 'earn more on benefits than people working' manage it - my best friend has worked since she left school 20 years ago.

Her shit ex hubby walked out on her and the kids 4 years ago and went abroad to work and pays no maintenance.

She had to take over mortgage payments etc on her own. 7 months ago she was diagnosed with a serious health problem and had to go off sick from work.

After 28 weeks she is apparently classed as no longer employed (even tho she has a job to return to). Her income has dropped from £1700 a month when she was at work to £1200 whilst off sick to £600 a month now after 6 months. Her mortgage is £500

She is now in the position where her GP and consultant are telling her another 2 months and she can go back to work and she's telling them I have to go back now!

Luckily she had managed to save a little in the past but once this months mortgage is paid that's gone

So I'd love to know why folks think people on benefits are so well off
