First buses have announced that the night bus service will be withdrawn from July 31st. So sorry if you relied on that to get you home after a night out or a shift in work.
Hard enough to get a taxi on a Friday or Saturday night in town. |

Another blow to the hospitality sector as a lot of people will leave to catch the last bus/train home. Not to mention the safety risk to anyone that works shifts and relied on these buses to ensure they got home safely and cheaply! Not everyone can afford a taxi after they finish work!  |

Add to that the LEZ introduced some workers wouldn't be able to bring their cars into the city centre |

I see folk calling for nationalisation/ municipalisation, but when you see the clusterfuck that our governments and GCC have done over the past few years can we trust them anymore?
No one takes responsibility, it's always someone elses fault or your being 'anti Scottish'.

It's also just occurred to me that the UCI World Cycling takes place in Glasgow at the start of August.
All those international visitors, out for a party in Glasgow and looking to get home late at night...

Slowly but surely the council/government are trying to remove vehicles from the city centre!!
Think about it…….. it’s all designed to piss vehicle owners off!
Years ago……. Let’s make the streets in the town one way…….. forcing drivers round the long way
Then came the bus gates with inadequate signage all to trap you into a fine!
Then the LEZ zine kicked in!!
Someone in a shirt n tie is getting paid fortunes to make these things happen!! And I bet he’s got a council company car and most probably exempt from any fines!!

They say there’s less than 14 people an hour on average using the services I’d have said cutting down on the earlier services first would have been better so the folk that stayed out late and staff finishing could still get home. . |

Surely not every route has to make a profit. There must be some money available to keep the night buses going. What happened to being environmentally friendly and saving the planet?
A few extra late trains home would be great too. |

Looks like I'll have a even longer wait getting home from a night out in town now.
If they ran the night buses every 30 or even hourly and had them running to and from town I'm sure a lot more folk would use them.
They could also create dedicated night bus routes the way it was years ago, instead of what they did just now. That would allow them carry more passengers per bus. All they have to is look the information is online of the old night bus routes left from George Square |

the main issue is that idea of privatisation was too introduce a new of thinking into how the bus industry works instead it just made companies bigger and there shareholders more greedy. the bus industry is still run the way it was in the 1960s and 70s, the bus companies are running double deckers on routes that dont justify one i.e. a route carrying 14 passengers could be jutified by using a smaller bus also which would be cheaper to run, but the so called educated bosses who run these companies dont seem to be able to work things like this out. |

I am generally depressed by this, no more CJ'S need to leave at 11pm to get last bus. Need to go to day time one with my rota won't be till next year.
No more social dressed night out unless I'm just out for a couple of hours during the day or need to spend £80 for a hotel or now Impossible taxi to East Kilbride
Could join the Glasgow sauna or Casino that 24 go there till the buses start in the morning
It's almost as bad as lock down. |

This is the problem you’ve got when private companies are running public transport.
About 24 years back, First Glasgow ran 24/7 on certain routes. For many it was invaluable.
The last bus out of Glasgow to Cardonald is 0030. It’s always packed on a Saturday and Friday.
I’d like to think a different operator would start to run late on a Saturday and Sunday.
Another idea would be for First to run services back from where they are going to. They send buses to Paisley at night but don’t run services back to Glasgow. Paisley is a real nightmare to get back from though it’s a good night out, especially Gabriel’s. |

Shocked when I heard this on radio earlier in week. Just as the LEZ comes in is a ridiculous time to do this! If there’s fewer passengers run fewer and smaller buses yes but to do away with them altogether is ludicrous!
The LEZ and this will kill the city centre. Scotrail missing a trick here not putting on later trains in response I think.
Hard enough getting a taxi after a night out as it is. This is going to make that harder too as there’ll be more people getting taxis too.
Taxi drivers are against more taxis on the roads apparently (based on conversations I’ve had with drivers) as it reduces their profits.
But the city needs people having nights out, working in the city centre etc or it really will die! |

fuck first bus
Without a doubt the single worst transport in the whole of scotland. They never turn up half the time anyway so no night bus is just normality.
Looks like ill be sitting in the casino after work til 6am most weekends then.

Did anyone see that the managing director from First is suggesting pub staff drive the buses after their shift so they run as he's admitted finding drivers for them is the biggest problem.

Most Governments are trying to make it imperative that we use public transport. Without there being viable public transport alternatives. |

It was always expensive going in to Glasgow for me. As trains stopped to early. And a taxi costs more than train. So it was cheaper just to book a hotel. Sadly it's all got even more expensive. So no nights out in Glasgow for me for sometime I think. |

Being an ex doorsteward I'm so glad I no longer work in town in fact I'm trying to move out to the coast and away from the city. I genuinely feel those that still depend on working in town. But the trade is dieing and the government couldn't be less interedmsted |

I know they are doing less routes - but honestly on the face of it McGills look a bit smarter. They are keeping the big runs out to Paisley, and shifting all the East runs up a bit through Dennistoun. Hitting more people likely to be out late at night I reckon. |

I think people living on the Western isles would beg to differ. Every aspect of their life dependent on a functional ferry service. I think they trump a night bus for people out on the piss and, granted hard-working people on low wages needing to get home. Buuuut that's an argument for another day. |

Seems First Bus are having second thoughts! They have delayed pulling the night buses until the end of the month. Call me cynical but would this have anything to do with McGills possiblity taking over the routes! |
