Just wondering if anyone planning on going? I’ve not been in a few years for various reasons, would like to go but would prefer company if possible especially if anyone I already know is going?
Would also appreciate any tips for attending, best times to go to which parts etc? Perhaps things best avoided? In order to have the best experience. |

Sadly I am working however my job can often see me out in the community with those whom I work with so I’m hoping I can take a small group along.
The inclusiveness these days have are so important, especially to the younger generations |

Happy to meet up somewhere. Not sure about doing March as it doesn’t seem well organised plus I’m booked into cjs so it might make for a very long day! But happy to meet in town lunchtime/afternoon ? Anyone up for that and if so where n when? |

I would like to take part in the march, as long as its a celebration. If it turns into a political rally like London did, then I will bomb that out and find somewhere friendly to hangout |

"Controversial question and I mean no disrespect... But what's the purpose of the march?
"
Once a year celebration of the LGBT community. And those outside the community showing their support.
This year's theme is the celebrating woman in pride |

I'll be careful what I post,
Put the name of website was enough to get my post deleted and banned for 24 hrs
So google Mardigla, got about 15 freinds from my Trans social group both going to the March and meeting in Delmonica's 4pm or any good Gay bar afterwards.

Any further forward with definite plans for during the day? I’ve a rainbow/pride dress I’ll be wearing but might wear leggings with it too if the weather isn’t great at this rate I might even be wearing flipping boots!
Stalls at the barras? Don’t think I’ll be on the March which historically was in response to stonewall riots I believe? Certainly about the struggles lgbtq+ people faced inc fear for safety.
I’m booked in for cjs and will be heading to pre drinks also.
Happy to meet others in the afternoon/early eve before that though just let me know when and where |

"Why do they have pride marches exactly? "
Historically it was to celebrate the community and their struggles to be accepted. And, as the name suggests, to show they are proud of who and what they are.
Nowadays? Many would argue it's for spicey straight people to have a fun day out and for the corporate world to show how right on they are.
Regardless, have a good day to all who are going. |

First pride was to celebrate Stonewall. The gay movement.
It's evolved over the year. Normally been a celebration, but is becoming a bit too political.
But still a fun weekend /month |

Pride has always been political As they say time and again, pride was/is a protest.
Kudos to Mardigla for taking over from Glasgow pride for organising a free event (as rightly it should be)
Yes, it might not be the best organised this year, but hopefully year on year to come they will learn and grow |

Pride marches remember those that were involved in the Stonewall Uprising. They have also been used to promote the discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community and raise awareness of AIDS and HIV.
Pride events are usually a great opportunity to learn more, ask questions and become more informed. There are many people who need support as they face their own journeys either privately or openly. Many events are supported by charities and organisations that can offer support for those feeling vulnerable. |

"Why do they have pride marches exactly? "
The original purpose of the pride march was held to mark the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and what they achieved. The GLF was the first organised group in the aftermath of the riots and they encouraged lesbians and gay men (Pride was originally Gay Liberation marches before being called Gay pride and now Pride) to fight for gay liberation and gay rights through direct action rather than the more covert support group style of groups like the Mattacbine society before it.
The Stonewall Riots was the first organised direct action protest by the gay community and one that had lasting success. The pride march was started to celebrate that.
Now? Well, everyone knows what it is now.

Respect to any LGBTQ+ struggling for acceptance...but yer comment on nowadays is sadly dead-on. |

This is a very good point to a question that often sparks argument.
I personally have no opinion on the Pride marches. I wear a pride watch, not for the gay community but for the aspect of equality, acceptance and non judgement. I honestly couldn’t give a shite if your gay, bi, queer, straight or a floppysexual bipolar parrot identifying as a giraffe on weekends. If you are happy, I am happy and that’s just the way i strive to live. |

I think u have to register before hand to be in the march. But maybe u can register on the day.
U can always come.out and show support. Most places in town are opening at 12 today. Mardi Gras atmosphere. Despite the weather |

"Starts from Glasgow Green "
Thanks
Yea I read faqs on the site and individuals don’t need to register if not carrying placards etc. I’ve had a surreal couple days one thing and another, I’m awake anyway so I’m thinking I’m gonna get up? Get ready and see if I can make it there by 12.
Been joking in group chat re weather but would I be ok in ballet pumps shoe wise do we think?
I’m thinking to add leggings and cardi to dress and take a light coat and brolly? Just to be on safe side.
If anyone knows me or thinks they recognise me please do say hello!
Anyone defo gonna be at start of March can maybe tell me on here where they are/are going to be at the green? Happy to exchange phone number/WhatsApp by pm to get/stay in touch and find each other today.
Happy pride day all!! |
