It's all material stuff to me, means fuck all i spend it as quick as i earn it on loved ones, give myself the odd theraputic retail therapy but i lead a simple life.

I get your point and have thought the same but least your in control they however may not be.

I always live by the motto what i have today i may not tomorrow.

How do you know they're unemployed?

Anyway, chances are it's because of more disposable income. You might make more money overall, but I'll bet a lot of it goes straight back out for bills and the like, right?

Is it really appropriate that you're telling us about your family in such a way on a public forum?

Im in the age bracket you describe, yes im on benefits and trust me its not through choice. All my furniture is second hand except one table lamp i bought myself. Id love a night out but i cant afford to as i have a house to keep and bills to pay. So not all people in my age range are living the good high life on their benefits

My Mr was on benefits for a few months this year and trust me, it was no picnic. He got £55 a week or so - I don't know where this idea of benefits being luxurious comes from, I can tell you that even with my full time wages we struggled big time. There are people out there who scam money, sure, but in the grand scheme of things people on benefits generally aren't living the high life.

Wouldn't it be easier to just ask your OWN kids where they get the money from?

Totally agree....was on benefits for a while due to ill health after being used to a really good wage.

It was a nightmare!!!! Thankfully I'm working and can afford to live again!

I know how you feel mate, money isn't everything, young folks get themselves into debt and crime to buy material things, they all will have to pay for it in one way or another, best way to be is to lead a modest life

It's usually called debt !!!!

Us that work tend to have debt for the more important practical less materialist things those that don't tend to have debt and nothing much to show for it long term

My only debt is my mortgage. I wouldn't want to start taking other things on credit too, not when I already owe all these thousands! It means I don't have internet at home, an iPad or holidays etc. I'd rather sleep easy than have other debts to worry about.

I work full time and I only ever buy something if I can afford to pay cash for it, I have a comfortable enough life without debt in it and I do sympathise with the youth of today as they are constantly getting pissed upon and berated wrongly for all being scroungers
